Just talked to Jim Woods again. He said the IHRA had no say as to the way the race was run off. Rain was forecast for the rest of the week. The track operators voted (9-2) to run the race with the practice tree. Four tenths, two ambers, no red lights. Contingencies and payouts were done just like normal. IHRA officials just ran the race for Summit. No decisions were made by IHRA people. Track operators voted and made all decisions. Jim

Then what the heck is this?
How would they get those numbers with a practice tree? http://www.ihra.com/article/5190.html

The Summit Super Series runoffs were completed earlier in the weekend, along with the Gambler's races. The practice tree was used for the 'main event'. I heard that Beaver Springs, Dragway 42, and Quaker City voted against it.
I'd be dead in the water on a Pro Tree. ![]()

That's just plain silly. I bet the Race of Champions was a real hoot too.

Summit Super Series runoffs = Race of Champions. That was among the races completed on-track before it rained.

I won a bracket race at Quaker City in 2004 when they just pulled cards!
Got rained out after first round, so if you were still in, they gave you a card then put them all together and "ran" the rounds. ...didn't have to worry about reaction time or lane choice!

If there was really no opportunity to race Sunday or Monday, and people chose that coming back wasn't an option, then I'm not sure a practice tree tournament was the worst idea. BUT HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU RUN IT ON A PRO TREE SET SUCH THAT NO ONE CAN RED LIGHT? ARE YOU FREAKING SERIOUS?
My son was there running "no box". Shouldn't street and "no box" have left off the bottom in their tournament? And if you do a pro tree, how can you not be able to set your own roll out? So whomever has the fastest reflexes is the winner? What a joke... My son and I are both a little on the slow side (insert punch line here). He never had a chance. I worked on the car for two days straight to get it ready. He worked all season to qualify, spent the money to get there, and endured the nasty conditions. Never had a chance. Potentially, the bracket finals champ is some jackass that can't stage, can't drive the stripe, can't dial, and has a complete pos for a car...but he's got fast reflexes!!! I have no idea what in the hell the track operators were thinking...what a bull**** deal... |

This is hilarious. Are you kidding me? I heard the track op vote was 5-4 in favor. Truthfully, I think I would have just packed up and left. Half the race is because of the car you have and they just took it right out of the equation. Where was the common sense?

in my entire 34 years of racing, i have never heard of such a bad idea. i feel bad for the racers who worked long hours, gave up weekends and family time to qualify for the bracket finals, and to have it end like that.

BTW, Dan, I met Thomas at our practice tree (for fun with adjustable roll-out) race on Saturday night. Very nice kid and I had a good time talking to him. He also took a good bit of our money hitting that practice tree. Mark Romeo |
