I think it would be cool to go back to simpler days, but if you think spectators are going to line up to watch 135mph cars race when now they are used to watching the pro's at 200+ - 300+ I believe you are sadly mistaken.....I for one enjoy running 9.90 @ 165+
Anyone notice that these types of threads have only recently started popping up since NHRA raised its $$$$ and the economy has been in the chitter......??????? Rick Blake |

I don't think anyone needs to blame the empty seats on NHRA either.....this economy sucks period....had to park my **** due to it and not a happy camper about it, but NHRA didn't do it. I do feel they couldn't have picked a worse time to increase fee's though....that was less than brilliant....LOL Rick Blake |

Here's a couple of Super Gas greats from my local track, Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip in North Georgia. Floyd Cheek in the Vega, went on to be an IHRA Quick Rod champion and in 1997 was IHRA Pro Stock world champion.

Labbous' car was very "trick" as far as suspension wise from what I saw......I think he was footbraking very early in S/G and the car really popped the front end out of the beams very quickly and easily.......he was R/Up to a friend in the final of S/G at the SummerNationals around 1986.......

I don't mind data collection, or even trans brakes, but when the box controls the throttle it is a lot less about the driver and more about the programmer. Delay boxes and throttle controllers, the electronic type, not so much the mechanical old school kind, ruined the .90 classes, and any class they are used in for that matter.

I think probably super comp or gas is the hardest class to win in.....but they are all tough.....
a 150 mph super gas car is slow maybe maybe 8.90 flat out....our car will run probably 7.70s all out....so yes there is a huge difference between 150 and 170.... like I said....9.50 @ 140 with a wheelie is a good ride too....but don't knock the S/G cars until you've tried it... Rock Haas |

I'd LOVE to see them put a SPEED LIMIT on all throttle stop classes !!
That would take a lot of the start & stop & start again boring runs away....... |
