Talking Re: Pics from Veidec Festival,Sweden.

If NHRA drag racing goes belly up maybe we can all move to Sweden.Nah they would stop us at the border. They don't need the aggravation. They do have a lot of nice American muscle over there though.

Thanks for the pics, Hasse.

Veidec Drag Festival is a 5-day event, and the largest drag race i Europe,
with FIA Championships in TF, TM, TMFC, PM and PS together with UEM'
Championships in Super Twin, TFB and PSB.
And then of course there is all of us NHRA Sportsman racers.

Wednesday is dedicated for nostalgia drag racing, with old TF sling shots, old AA- coupes
and for example Harlan Thompson in the fresh refurbished FC " Three Crowns" that he drove here in Sweden in the 70:ies.
Thats magic...
For us sportsman its scrutinering, mingeling in the pits and barbeque.

Thursday is Sportsman qualifying day, and we usually get three rounds.
Thursday night means mingeling and barbeque.

Friday we usually see one, maybe two rounds of qualifying.
No time for class elimination.
Barbeque, mingeling, maybe in more than the S/SS pits, cover bands in all bars and restaurants at the track.

Saturday we sleep really late, time for sightseeing in the neigbourhood, usually we have two round of elimination in the 32 car ladder late ( I mean, watch out for the RL in-the-dark---late) on Saturday night.

Sunday we wait, and wait and wait, until the "pro´s" has boiled down their ladders, but then from the semi´s we are suddenly in a hurry, with no or little time to cool down, etc.

Unfortunately, this years finals disappered in a couple of rain showers in all classes, but we will be there next year again.

Hyvää Soumi to our Finnish friends Jarmo Markkanen and Yrjö Wallius, who missed their final due to the rain showers.

Swedish championships in S/SS was determined at Veidec after the races also at Västerås and Skellefteå, and these are final standings:

1. Ulf Edwardson Dodge Challenger -70 B/SA 263 p
2. Lars Bodén Ford Fairlaine -70 D/S 262
3. Pelle Andersson Chevy Nova SS- 69 B/SA 255
4. Anders Pettersson Ford Mustang Mach 1 -70 C/SA 211
5. Thomas Sundstrom Ford Mustang CJ -68 C/S 189

Tight racing... Top 5 has all attended all three races.

We have about one month left of the racing season over here, and hopefully we can keep you posted. Don´t forget we are at the same latitude as Alaska...

Some cars are purchased race ready as my Nova, but as I stated in an earlier topic, many stockers and superstockers is built up from scratch here in Sweden (and Finland).
Before we fully adapted to the NHRA regulations we had the classes S (Standard) and MS
(Modified Standard) for many years. So we do have a lot of experienced gearheads over here.
Regarding partying at the track, its the same here as elsewhere, as long as you are in the ladder you´d better keep it cool. We have marshalls with alcometers in line-up checking both drivers and mechanics, and the tolerated level is 0 (zero). And if you get caught toxicated at line-up racing in Finland, you are not only disqualified, its even a matter of police notification. So partying is mainly for the spectators, and maybe team members w/o access to the track.
But then again, if you are eliminated at Veidec Drag Festival on Saturday night, beer and the cover bands is suddenly an option...

Must be a Yenko??? I didn't think the 427 was available in a Chevelle other than a Yenko.
