Here's what you do:

Come out of your burnout ( which also didnt have a rev limiter)
Stage car
Look at that real big thing with numbers from 0-10,000
If you want to leave at say..... 6800, then press down on your gas pedal untill the pointer thingy on that big round thing is right at 6800, then DO NOT press pedal further. Hold it there untill the tree comes down and you want to go.... then.... and this is the most important part.... take your foot off the clutch pedal and the car will go.

*sigh* Dont know how we all did it without todays technology.
LOL.........My kind of racer.

If you notice its just the younger generation that really dont know. Its what us older guys got used to doing. Drag racing has evolved to where some couldnt race with out all the "bells and whistles such as 2- steps, air or elec. shifters, slider clutches and we even had to really use the clutch to shift gears when the pointy needle was on the right number (or by ear) instead of a shift light.....imagine that !

Terry,

I remember when "trick", was a Mr. Gasket in-line shifter. That was the neatest thing I ever put in my Mustang. In the 70's. a rev limiter, wasn't that keeping the rods in the motor! Which I failed at, a couple times. With all the gadgetry today, driving a car by the seat of the pants is a lost art. There was a real feeling, a stiff clutch, slamming against a 50 lb flywheel at 7000+ rpm. Planting a set of 10.5 x 29.5 M & H Racemasters on old heavy Cragar SS wheels. Hoping you don't leave something setting on the starting line, like your tailshaft, driveshaft, pinion gear or an axle, LOL! Oh, yes, those were the days.

I better not show this thread to my dad. He never had a 2 step, Chips or anything but a 1/2 speed tach. Hemi, 4 speed and 3000 lbs.

I drove his 1972 restored Pro Stocker 200 feet one day with the Hemi, 4speed and 2 dominators on it. My girlfriend did me no good for months after that. No **** I got goose bumps just loading it up in the trailer.

Roy Hill once told me years ago that the "HIT" from a Pro Stocker was better than sex !

I didnt even have to get the HIT. Just looking at that linkage with 1 to 1 linkage was awesome.
