SS/I and up are supposed to have multi-layer pants, jacket, and neck collar. GT rules are supposed to be the same as SS except where noted differently in the rule book, right? That's how I read it. Wesley told me at Ennis if I moved up to SS/IA I would have to have the multi-layer jacket, pants and neck collar. Just single layer SS/J and lower.

Ed - That's how I read it also. The racer I discussed this with at Dallas, was a 9.90 SS car that should have been required to have the neck brace. It would appear, at Dallas, anyway, that they are not enforcing this rule yet. Just my observation, although limited. I could be mistaken, as this is just one example.

Can you turn your head at all with a HANS (ie: to be able to look around when being chased)? I've got two screwed up disks in my neck and my wife would like to see me in a neck collar since the doc tells me I'm at risk of serious injury with even mild trauma.. I told her if they fuse my neck we gotta build a faster car so I always chase!!!

I can understand the pants thing.......... if you have to wear a jacket...then why not the pants.... that does make sense to me........ legs burn just as easily as arms........
But ............... I don't get the neck collar thing - I think it should be optional - I can definitely see it being a problem when you have to turn your head. The other thing I can't really understand is that half the stockers today are in the B A & AA range and all routinely run in the low 10's and 9's..... why would the requirements need to be different? Why would a SS car that runs 10.40's need the multi layer clothing and a neck roll while the stocker that goes 10.30's can get by with the single layer stuff and no neck roll..... let me guess............ maybe its because ...... if you run 10.01 - crash....... and catch fire.......... its not anywhere near as dangerous if you crash after running a 9.99 and catch fire............ I just don get it................. If you crash at 10.01 you will not be hurt bad enough to necessitate a neck roll but if you crash after a 9.99 you will tear every vertabre out of your neck? Sorry.... I just don't see the logic in the difference.... we all run the same type of fuel... in these classes a fire is a fire.... the requirements really shouldn't be any different. On a lighter note...... does anyone know which brand of neck roll is the thinnest???? Are we allowed to make our own? No doubt some one will figure out they can design one for handicapp classes that allows for head movement.
