With al due respect to all here is my conspiracy theory:
Looking at the qualifying sheet where he qualified how far under the F index his dial all week he may be in protection mode slowing the car down lowering the average. Running the headlights will load the alternator eating some HP. The on off could be as simple as an old switch or loose ground.
