I started racing in SS/L and SS/K. My first pass in the K car was a 10.84 at almost 121. All that was required was a jacket, helment and a 5 point harness. As I moved up in performance over the years to B/A (at 7.52 - 181) a number of safety requirements became mandatory. First was the fireproof jacket, then the pants, then the neck brace, then the gloves. Each time I complained about it being more hassle, not to NHRA but to myself and the people around me. However, after 3 or 4 races with each new "improvement" I became very comfortable with them. So much in fact that I felt far more secure than ever before..... almost totally insulated from the car and the environment. That made me feel more relaxed and let me concentrate on the job at hand. Don't whine, cry and complain about it. Just do it. In the end you'll be glad you did and it may save your arse someday. My .02
