Billy the AHFS rules are twenty years old. With all the gifts we received in the last 20 years how could most racers not make their cars several tenths faster. And by the way I have never asked for any of them. I'll make the car fast no matter what the rules are. My problem with the AHFS is it has not kept up with all that is now allowed. Take the 350/255 hp combo. I had a conversation with someone running that combo. In the last 15 years they have picked up close to 35 Hp. Thats 2 tenths in my book. But the AHFS remains the same.

another thing as James pointed out some of us run popular classes and you better have you **** somewhat together or you're going to have a long ride home trying to figure out what you can do to make your car faster. I don't have the fastest A/SA race car. So, I will keep on working on it. A friend of mine a few years back went to three races in a row and ran another H/SA car in the first round and couldn't run with any of them. We talked and I explained how much you spend to enter a knife into a gun fight and loose first round. And add up the time and travel expense. We talked about some of the things he needed to do to pick his car up several tenths. Now he doesn't lose very many heads-up rounds. It's not much fun when you go to the line in the same class, and you know you don't have a chance.

[QUOTE=Billy Nees;656529]Barry, how much did all of these modern changes raise the peak RPM potential of your combo? That and the "enhanced" heads and intake is where all of the gains are being made.
Just an FYI, you seem to be assuming that all of my stuff is 30 years old. The Pontiac and the Gold Nova have state-of-the-art short blocks and valvetrains in them. As for the "modernizing" that Doug is trying out, we'll see. I wish him luck and would like to have come talk to me at a race. I have some cheap things he could try that might help. Billy the heads and intake are pretty good right from the factory. Not long ago we sleeved a 454 to make the 396's. Now with the use of an aftermarket block it had made more hp. The new rings have helped a bunch. Brian has played with many cam grinds. The carbs are better. It is a combo of everything. I can tell you it's at least 3 tenth quicker than my last big block car. Also, in that time they came out with piston, rod, and ring weighs. A lot of engine builders were able to lighten up the rotating rates based on the new numbers. The tranys and converters are better. I don't know how anyone can look at this and say the AHFS should stay the same. Billy we are going to race our cars the way we both want to, but I'd bet if you had a possible of heads up a couple of times a race you would put more effort and money into go faster. BP PS Billy I'm going to South Beach on Tuesday how about we call a truce until I get back. Last edited by B Parker; 01-30-2022 at 11:16 PM. |

Although I am not going, I'm gonna say NHRA wins. As inviting as the NMCA race is for people, we have seen time after time that most class racers are lured by the Wally. Its a shame NMCA scheduled the race the same weekend.
