The first race of the season (Pacemaker was rained out) will happen on Sat. June 11th at Kil Kare Dragway near Xenia Oh. presented by Columbus Joint & Clutch. Gates open at 9:00 am. I'll post more detailed time schedule for race day coming this week.
We will get two time runs with the first being the Dial For Dollars that cost the racers nothing thanks to Jim Nichols from Mid Ohio Paving. Pays $100 to win. Parsons & Myers puts up $100 for the best first round winning package that also is no cost to the racer. The race itself pays $1000 to win and $300 runner up with round money starting with second round winners (pay third round loser $50 and so on). round money is $50 per round. Winner and runner up do not receive round money. We are looking at dates to run the rained out Pacemakers race. Still working on that. If there are questions call me at 740-359-5877 (cell). This Saturday June 11th the Buckeye Stock/SuperStock Drag Racing Series presented by Columbus Joint & Clutch, will be at Kil Kare Dragway in Xenia, OH. Gates will open at 9:00 am. Cars will not hit the track until 11:00. Run order will be Pro ET, JR Dragsters, Super Pro, Bikes, Sportsman, then Stock/SuperStock. We will most likely get on the track around 12:30 or so. We will get 2 time trials (unless something unforeseen happens). Eliminations will follow the same order.
Mid Ohio Paving will pay $100 to the dial for dollars winner on the first time trial. Parsons & Myers Racing Engines awards the racer with the best first round winning package $100 as well. For racers that want to come early there is Pro Double Up going on Friday night. This is a $50 entry that pays $1,000 to win and money starts at 16 or less. Gates open @ 5pm and have been able to do open time runs till 6:30pm with eliminations at 7pm. That will be our only class running so the program runs rather quickly. Also, if anyone is wanting to park on Friday night they will be able as well. All of our racers can run this if they want. This is a great chance to get in two races in one weekend. On the very serious side, as the year ended in 2015 we learned of the death of Steve "Moocher" Thomas. Most of you may not know the name. He was Jim Nichols (Mid Ohio Paving) right hand man since 1977.(Jim has raced with our series since it was started and has sponsored the Dial for Dollars as well since the beginning, paying $100 at each race, to racers that got the closest to their dial in.)Prior to that he toured the country with Butch " California Flash" Leal for 8 years and before that he worked for Ray Christian for ten or eleven years. His death was sudden and he had not planned well. The Buckeye Stock SuperStock Drag Racing series will take up donations at the next three races to help pay for a gravestone and burial expenses for the family. The Buckeye S/SS Series will match donations up to $500 to help with this. Monies will be turned over to Jim Nichols for the family. Ten or twenty dollars each will go a long way towards this. (We've all wasted more money than this for unimportant things). Please do what you can for this cause. Nitro Joe and I are really looking forward to kicking off the 2016 Season with all of you. See you at Kil Kare. Jeff Ross & Nitro Joe Jackson |

Maybe the threat of rain will keep some racers home but hot weather won't.It got up to 94 on Saturday June 11th. Stock/SuperStock and Nostalgia racers were good with that. Two racers broke before eliminations leaving 34 for the first round. A good mix drivers going rounds found five racers left in the fourth round. None of them had won on the Buckeye S/SS series so we would have a new winner. Let were Brian Merkle driving his A/SA Firebird defeating Paul Boster's Corvette Stocker. Ken Sharp's Cadillac GT/KA over Bob Marshall's Dodge Material SS/AA. The bye was to Mike Ortel's '63 Plymouth N/SS car.
Ken Sharp got the Bye into the final.Mike Ortel had a .003 light and looked good against Merkle's Firebird until he went from first to third killing his chances to move to the final. Final was The blue and yellow NAPA Firebird of Brian Merkle against Ken Sharps Caddy. The sun played a big part in the final as Sharp could hardly see the tree and was later than Merkle. Brian only needed a 10.86 on a 10.74 dial to win. Sharp ran a 10.7598 on his 10.76 dial so he had that part figured out. Congratulations to both drivers as they are both now qualified for the Championship runoff. The Buckeye S/SS Drag Racing Series presented by Columbus Joint & Clutch also saw Matt Antrobius run an 11.261 on his 11.26 dial to edge out the Challenger of Jeff Ross who was 10.873 on his 10.87 dial for the Dial for Dollars cash sponsored by Mid Ohio Paving. The first round "Best First Round Winning Package " was narrowly won by Jeff Ross with a .023 light and a 10.851 on his 10.85 dial (.0249 package) over Bob Marshall's .0277 package (.0093 light and 9.6184 on a 9.60 dial in) $100 sponsored by Parsons & Myers Racing Engines. Also as a note we collected $950 for the Steve "Moocher" Thomas burial fund. Buckeye S/S Drag Racing Series did the $500 match to total $1450 so far. We will again collect for this fund at the next race at National Trail for those that did not have the opportunity to donate. Great start to the 2016 Season and see you all at National Trail for the next race on the series. Jeff Ross & Nitro Joe Jackson |
