Jeff's engine was legal for Stock Eliminator. The only reason NHRA questioned him was regarding the leaf spring shackles that in my opinion and the same of others, were and are legal. |

I totally agree with that statement. On the other hand, AMC group 19 parts should not be legal nor should anything else that was not available on the showroom floor be legal in stock other than replacement parts that are NHRA approved and do not significantly improve performance. That should not include bigger carbs, "police specials" and some of the other stretches of the rules that have managed to sneak thru over the years.

well, guys, NHRA approved the carb, intake and cam....we go buy 'em and then NHRA or somebody bitches about it and then they get un-approved.
I'm happy as **** because I cannot find the correct carb for my 290,cool, I can quit looking, right? nope, roughly 1500 bucks down the drain for me. MY issue with Jeff is he said I was the one that "threw him under the bus" (his words) news flash, I'm in the same boat, why the hell would I do that? I could live with the cam and intake getting pulled but why were they approved in the 1st place? oh well, i'll just run in the local stick class for now

What is so different with AMC's that can't have parts that were approved under the same guidelines as other makes? Not to rehash the same B.S. again; nevertheless, I have seen the documentation sent by Chrysler to NHRA making the parts legal for use. It is the same process used by other OEM's to have parts approved such as the 2 x 4 barrel Shelby's, the higher lift cams, Chevy 283 with a 327 intake, etc... Again, please edify me why AMC's are different and why the same rules don't apply? |

Eric, show me where the factory installed the 950 CFM "approved" carb. Would you like to debate the TRW piston?
Pat is correct about chasing other bogus parts, but there's too many out there benefitting from them. Oh and NHRA doesn't have the cujones to pick on a combo that has a lot of users. Jim, you're 100% right. Jim did you know that you could have had a 500 cfm Holley factory installed on the 258" six? High altitude option. :>) We both missed the boat on that one.

The issue of "making noise" is the fact that NHRA has always been selective of whom they allow to get away with changes to the specs. |
