This is the best advice in the thread. Don't "work with" the guy, and try to "make a deal". You entrusted your property to him and he destroyed it. He isn't your friend, and even if he was, he'd still have the obligation to restore you to the condition you were in before the loss. Get a lawyer, or you'll end up with nothing.

Sorry to hear the bad news....I think Mr. Haddad was on the right trail. If you signed a work order OR if there was a repair order written then your chances of a solid case are better. A signed work order indicates a contractual agreement between you and the shop and legitimizes your car being left at that location.

I do know that in many states ( applies here in NC ) there is a "Carriage Law " that states if a customer entrusts their vehicle to a repair shop, then the repair shop has the responsibility for the care and safety of your property. Maybe Texas ( or where ever the car was located ) has a similar law. Did this shop have a Garage Liability policy?

Your reasoning to proceed to the next step is that the shop owner is not working with you in "Good Faith".

I agree with others who posted, that you need an attorney, as many times they can reach settlement ( favorable to you ) without a court proceeding.
