If I remember correctly it was our good friend Bob Shaw winning with the Corvair at Bowling Green, some things never change.

Racing was a lot simpler back then. All you had to do was get a green light and outrun the car in the other lane.

Cannot remember the Par system. I bought my first official stocker in 1969 and always raced on the National records. Hard in the midwest to win on a California or Jersey National Record. Really fun because NO one could so we all were in the same boat and some days you out drove them.
I agree the current system is a "part of the scam". The others are the factoring system and the structure which allows a class for everyone instead of everyone racing a class.
Example of this is local National events allowing 80 entries and Hundreds of classes. Result no need for class only bracket racing. No need to tech because its only a dial in race if you are too busy. Added issue is developments by hi tech companies. Ever expanding rules in supposed limited class, S and SS. The Comp tech reachs these and presto HI BUCK Motors, Trans, and Cars. Result gone are the locally successful racers on a budget...

I fully agree. Way too many classes. Too soft indexes.

If people REALLY want to race they would build for the classes available. If the organization just wants their money they create a place for them to "drive their cars." Everyone loses as the racing is sacrificed in the name of "fairness". This thought always brings on the comment that then the "people with money can race" . True in a sense. But it also means they RACE not have a place to "drive their cars" . Many will see this as unfair but you know racing really is about beating someone not playing the dial, the air guage, the tech book for combos.. We have been dumbed down to create entry money when it looked like we were not an attractive money maker.

Even back in the heads-up days you had to be good at reading the air to get the right tune-up, you had to know whether to dump your opponent or leg it to keep from hurting your own record or going more than a tenth under and as I remember some of your cars, you didn't have them built or buy them from another racer without knowing that it was a good "tech book" combo.
I honestly can't figure out whether you don't think before you post or you just can't remember what real racing is.(that's about as PC as I can put it)

Billy, you just see the word "racing" as a dial in game. I see racing as one driver against one with the clock as an observer and you see the clock as the deciding vote. Just a problem of definitions. Have a Happy New Year.
