Default Lil IHRA classification help please!! Newbie Alert!

Hi guys. Very long time lurker but very new to S/SS racing. Here is what I have. Got my two little buddies racing JR's and we are/have been loving it. Problem is my 15yo is outgrowing them rapidly so I'm looking to get him something lined up in a big car. I don't want to go the big dragster route. I want to start him out in a footbrake car that I can let him beat up all weekend yet still run the divisionals when we travel. We are primarily an IHRA family. I also want to get into something we can gradually build into a higher class car as he saves/earns parts and pieces and hopefully get him a nuts and bolts lesson at the same time. Im waiting to take delivery on a 93 Z28 that is currently a very basic almost stock footbrake car. I want to turn it into an IHRA purestocker and eventually make it a crate motor car.

Here is where my question begins. I have tried to figure out which class it will fit in and I cant find the IHRA classification guide. I used the NHRA classification guide and it looks like it will fit into either D/PS or E/PS(???). I found 275 hp and a shipping weight of 3234 lbs (auto/coupe). The NHRA sheet is confusing to me tho, is the factored HP 346? And the class break is 9.35 (so C/SA?)? So at 346 HP the min weight will be 3114 (346 hp x 9.0) plus 170 for 3284lbs for an NHRA/IHRA legal car??

My main question is how does this pertain to the IHRA pure stock classes? If I follow this using the NHRA factored HP it would fit into B/PS but that doesn't seem right. I've seen some others running similar combos in D,E, or even F/PS. If I use the factory 275 it fits into either D or E. I spoke to a local this weekend with a vette with an LT1 that runs E. HELLLPPP!! LOL!

Thanks in advance!

PS I assume its similar in Crate Motor? Advertised crate HP x whichever class weight break you choose + 170 lbs??

I believe that the IHRA has the LT1 at 315 HP for Pure Stock. You might want to give them a call to check.

Kenny:
Welcome to the board.
As posted above, you might want to contact Mike Baker @ IHRA for the latest factored h.p.

My Pure Stocker ended up being factored lower than a regular Stocker 302 rating of the same year.

I just wished IHRA would post their latest factored h.p. ratings for each combo on the net.

And yes...it's factored h.p. times class weight break plus 170lbs= minimum race weight.

The information is out there, you just need to do a little searching to find it!

Here's a link - http://www.ihra.com/component/k2/itemlist/category/208

The way the listings have been updated makes locating the right entry harder, but not impossible. If you use a "find" command in your web-browser (Firefox uses Ctrl+F) you'll be able to locate the most recent updates from the list, instead of having to scroll the entire document.

Of course, as mentioned previously, a call or e-mail to the IHRA might also be a good idea!

Best of luck with your new project!

In Pure Stock the LT1 is Rated at 295 like my Car...In Stock the LT1 is Rated 299...
Your cars has an Aluminum Head and my Impala an Iron.
Both are allowed the F-Body Cam.

FWIW contact Mike Baker at IHRA to confirm..

Corbitt Marshburn has a 93 LT1 Camaro and it is set up as B/PS.
Add weight C/PS

Bullet have a great and legal Blueprinted Grinds available

Hope this helps.

When you finish the car send me a Picture for the Pure Stock PhotoGallery

Lew I did do some searching! I found the page you linked me to! It doesn't say anything about a 93 LT1, just 94-97. They are slightly different. THANKS!

Thanks for the help guys. I will get ahold of Mike Baker to confirm. I'll send you some pics soon Dan. Hope to debut it at Lakeland next month if I can get it under the index. Actually gonna debut it at Jackson SC for the Div finals next week, it'll just be in bracket trim, not a Bad ***** Pure Stocker!!

Florida, West Palm Beach area. I am praying the rumors are true reguarding us and IHRA. We just got one more new track and one that might switch over. If that happens we spose to become our own division with 4 doubles. THAT would be awesome!

Plan on building another PS when my younger son gets done with JR's and gradually make em both either into crate motor or legal stockers. Honestly I am very excited about this project. I always wanted a class car just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. I have raced S/G, Top Sportsman, and fast doorcar stuff for years. Even ran outlaw 10.5 and Heavy Street some. LOVE the heads up stuff, just couldn't bring myself to do it when it started getting really outta hand.
