Default Live from National Trails Raceway Division 3 LODRS

I got to the track about 5:30 PM and just missed getting through tech. The place is about half full and I have not a clue what happened during test and tune or how many racers participated, since it was over by the time I got here.

I usually do not come to this race because the weather is always hot and humid but we have the continuation of the eliminations for Indy and I'm still in. While we are on this subject I often wonder why they don't have this race the week before the Sportsnationals. I guess it would be too logical.

Hopefully someone at the track has a connection at the track and can post more timely info and pics. I would guess that Mike Beard will be here and chime in.

Schedule has two rounds of qualifying and Indy eliminations start up at three PM. This will be one race were the slower cars may have an advantage. High temp is predicted to be in the low nineties and heat index will be near one hundred.

I'm still in the Indy race, but broke a rod last week, so I'm missing a two-fer in Super Stock. Sucks, but it happens. At least she'll be fast when we get it on track again! I stopped by the track briefly just to get Terry Knott's Stocker through tech. Test n' tuners seemed very lean, and there were only a handful of cars in tech at any given time. I'm only about 20 minutes from the track, so I may be able to do more with pics n' such in the evenings than normal, from home. See y'all in the mornin'.

Just a little bit. They ran second round of the Indy race. Lots of byes and I know at least 2 that will have another bye this round. They just called round 3 of both stock and SS.

On another note, it's SLOW. 1.10 correction, 4200' for the second qualifying run, got a little better after the rain but still 1.085, 3600'.

The temp during second time trial was 93 dry bulb and dew point was 73 degrees. Pretty nasty.

It looked like the rain was going to stay north of us, and then when we were in the lanes for Q2 of Super Stock, they were proactive and sent us back to the trailer. Lots of lightning in the surrounding area, and sure enough, the wind shifted dramatically, and we got dumped on, but only for a short time. Despite the stunning humidity (Vapor Pressure over .80!), it still dried up fairly fast due to the heat. Couldn't have hurt to cool the track a little!

I have to give a HUGE thanks to Mike Volkman. As mentioned earlier, I broke the Volare last week, and was looking at missing two races. Despite having just six runs on a fresh motor, Mike didn't hesitate when I started to ask if I could drive his Sebring in the Indy completion. "Go hop in it and see how it fits!" He even offered to sit out Q2 so that I could get a time trial before Indy eliminations resumed. The rain pushed that back, and we went right into eliminations. I'm a little heavier than Mike, he blocks the tree and I watch the full tree, but we dialed off of his Q1 lap, and I crossed my fingers enough to come up with an .018 bulb the first time out in the car, enough to advance to Rnd 3 of the Indy race. Hit the scales, and then heard a nasty crunch when re-firing the car. Back in the pit, Mike found that a starter bolt had come out. It broke the nose off the starter. He had a spare, and went right to work. With Comp and the Alky cars, he finished with plenty of time before Rnd 3. I came up -.001 red this time, but in good news, legged it out for the car's best run of the weekend by far. "I think your motor's broke in now!" Great, great car, and I very much appreciate the opportunity to make a couple laps in it. Thanks so much, Mike!

Got pics from both my phone and Terry Knott's camera, uploaded on the Loose Rocker Promotions Facebook page. You can get to the complete photo gallery at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1&l=53c3907608

Here's a few shots from Terry...

Looked like a tie rod or ball joint on the right front let loose... a little hairy, but he got it stopped!

Fuel check got backed up 'a little' as they've started entering all data into the computer.
