Hey Jim,
I did compare std/low ratios some time ago, and my heavy beast of a stocker (#3610 min weight) did appreciate the lower gear set. Now my slightly lighter Super Stocker........well, stay tuned. We'll see this year what that one likes. I remember our conversation on the subject. Say hi to Debbie! Getting both cars ready! |

The ATI gear sets are made out of th200 gear sets. They call them 2.75 but are really 2.82. Had two sets in the torino at D weight and broke both sets. Got a straight cut 2.75 gear set from Dave at Pro Trans had no more problems.

the 2.75 is based off of the 2004-r foward planet, it's a nice piece when done correctly. my customer mark young has run one with over 500 passes, no problems.

How much machine work has to be done in making the 2.92 gear out of the 125c gm transmission fit in the C4.

when I called TCI, they told me they only sell the low drag 2.46, the low gear set anymore, ATI has been out of stock for 6 mos now and doesnt now when they will have them, ACT said he builds them in house and needs a week or so, didnt call broader performance, so i dont know what there story is, Ed Horensky said once TCI started cryo treating the gears, they stopped breaking, dont know if everyone else is doing the same

Here are some pics of my ATI C-4 2.92 planetary kit. Bought through Jegs w/NHRA discount. Looks like ATI press a spline adapter in the carrier adapting the GM internal spline to a C-4 output spline then welding the adapter in place. Not crazy about the weld being right in the middle of the support bushing. Will probably fix that before install. The sun gear is hard to see what they did. You would have to weld or spline the C-4 sun gear to the larger front planetary sun gear. As for the front ring gear assy, it looks likes maybe they counterbored the ring gear assy for the torrington and added a bushing? The assembly came with GM frictions to make it compatible with my forward clutch.
A very differnent approach than my broader stuff. He stayed mainly with Ford C-4 components and mated them to the GM planetary and ring gear. The ATI stuff looked a little less "robust" than my Broader so I am sticking that stuff in my stocker and my Broader stuff in my SS. |

Tom,
Yep, Broader Performance Weatherford TX is where I got my first 2.92 set up. Thought it was done well. Held up in my stocker but the forward planetary showed some wear after 4 long years of running with my #3640 stocker. Go figure! I looked for a 2.75 but didn't find any. Now that I know Virginia Speed makes one and Pro Trans, I might give either one of them a call if I go in that direction. Great to get fresh info through this forum. Thanks guys! |
