I know it's a little late for some of you, but it looks like they are listening to your input:
http://nhraracer.com/apcm/APCMviewer.asp?a=49632&z=175 3. If a Sportsman category reaches quota and spots become available prior to the deadline of 1 pm PST Monday the week of the event, entries will be accepted if the competitor has sufficient grade points at the time of entry. a. Example – SS for a National Event reaches quota at Grade 4, when the event opens for a grade 3 and spots become available in SS, competitors with a grade 3 will be eligible for entry. b. Example – SG for a National Event reaches quota at Grade 3, when the event opens for a grade 1 and spots are available in SG, all competitors with a grade point will be eligible for entry. |

Rule never made sense to me and I'm glad to see it changed. We all pile on NHRA for stupid moves, so they deserve some credit for changing policy in this fashion.
Let's be thankful there isn't some sort of "you really didn't have the proper grade point fee" attached, lmao... |

Maybe it was the email I sent!

BTW, people do withdraw for some very good reasons. It's a little tiresome to see several people (not calling you out, realize it's a fairly common sentiment) question the decisions of withdrawing entrants without any knowledge whatsoever of what caused it. People spend a lot of time and money to get grade points (and hopefully win some $ along the way) and if s...happens then it's great to have a withdrawal policy in place and a year's time to catch a race they can make.
