i have been pourin water under john's tires going on 43 years sometime in the 2010 season. so he's been around a while and we coaxed Terry Earwood out of retirement every once in a while (even thou he still turns right and left for work) he can still go straight real well . just don't ask him about the school bus unless ya got a week

Just for clarification, Beswick started in '52.
Also, FWIW, I know a few Bonneville racers who are in their seventh decade of competition and several were active drag racers between '49-'60. (By the way, I presume we're omitting Garlits, who started in '50, because of multiple retirements? After all, he is a class racer now!) Last edited by Bret Kepner; 01-06-2010 at 07:19 AM. |

I guess I can enter myself in this, as I went to Union Grove in 1956, and the following week I raced a 55 Chebby, 265 W/4bbl, 3 speed w/overdrive, and got my butt kicked !
I've been racing ever since ! Less in the last 2 years, due to some health problems, that are now cleared up ! Will be back in 2010, on a limited schedule , but I'll be out having my usual good time ! See you guys this summer,,,,,,,,,.John Lang

My first track experience was at Pomona, '59 or '60 with a flag starter. Still doin it today. But my hat's off to the Greek, Arnie Beswick and Jess Tyree.
