In the older days NHRA would have a number wrote down on every class that had uneven cars in them.. What ever number it was ex.[ "3 " in 11 car field] 3rd car in line would get the bye.. NO one knew who it was until you pulled out of staging lane heading to the line. There was no flipping or pullings cards.

#1qualifier of each class only applies to the first round and he or she should get the bye run. Flipping coins, drawing numbers, etc. should be used thereafter. But no more bye runs for #1. This procedure was explained to me by a Division Director at the Jegs Sport Nationals a few years ago. Sounds reasonable.

That only seems right to the slower guys. ![]() Flipping coins and pulling cards is only fitting for the local bracket racing. Class should be about who is fast. Some people still care. The guys that choose to sit back and not constantly test and work on their combinations still get to do their beloved bracket racing in eliminations. And pray they don't have a heads up.

Sounds great Joe.....but for instance...SS/DA has 3 cars...If we happen to be the quickest we should get the bye in the 1st round of class....With the fact that I'm not really sure how many fast runs you have to make to get HP....its a big deal....2 at the same event?....2 at 2 events??? How does it work...for sure....
Maybe Travis or Bruce can answer this one.... Rock |

a $35000 motor may not be enough to win class at Indy..
Stay below 1.15 and I think you'll be alright there Rock ![]() |

Shouldn't the fastest car win class? Barring an agreement to race to 1000 ft. how else are you going to be the fastest and still not run the 1.15 under or more? Of course this doesn't apply to all classes. Seems like alot of confusion on exactly how the AHFS works, I've seen explanations in print but I think you have to be a Lawyer to understand it. For me at least maybe a laymens explanation. Almost looks like the Comp deal where you may have to sacrifice some to get the win, question is who wants it the most? Joe

If you can run 1.3 or 1.4 under at Indy in the usual conditions they get there. You can handle some HP... or index.
