I had a Kestrel 4250 meter and the batteries leaked and wrecked the meter. I have found out that this was somewhat normal and by design the acid went onto the circuit board and ruined it. I ordered a new unit from Kestrel (5100 Racing meter) and they will give you $ 63 towards the new one if you send your old one in no matter what the condition. The new meter has a warning and explicit instructions to you only Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries. This might be a good idea for you guys with the older units to minimize leakage. Personally I think I will use these batteries in all of my Maglite flash lights. Hope this helps

If the date on your battery has not expired most battery companies will give you some money towards the replacement of your electrical device. I had a Mag Lite replaced by Energizer. Emails and photos was all it took.
