Default Live from NHRA Nationals in Joliet....sort of.

Well, Alex and I are supposed to be at Joliet right now. Tony is there, we are close, at the University of Chicago Medical Center trying to get to the bottom of some persistent issues with Alex's health that no one can figure out yet. That's my Alex - a medical mystery! But he is doing well, we are still here while they try to find out why this "episode" thing keeps happening. We hope to get out to the track sometime this weekend. I obviously withdrew though I am still on the sheets. Crappy thing is, I waited to enter until almost the very last minute on Monday. Then a few hours later, Alex is back in the ER, then on his way to Chicago. Grrrr. I am such a jinx I guess.

Just talked to Tony, nothing has been called up to the lanes, though they were supposed to start at 9:30 Central. It's foggy and has rained off and on the past few days, so they are probably having troubles getting the track ready. Weather forecast is not good at all, hopefully the very severe stuff will stay west of us until later on Sunday as they are currently predicting. But with weather, well we all know how that goes.

Hopefully some other of our fine fellow racers will jump in with updates, pictures and gossip. And as soon as we get out there, we will add our input.

Have a fun and safe event everyone! Hope to be out there with you sooner than later this weekend.

Beth & Alex

Any truth to the rumor a fake battery was found in the "Allstar" teardown?

When I went through tech, the official asked about tethers and I showed him that he could see them through the fender well and he was good with that. Next he looked at the battery and asked if it was real. I thought he was kidding so I told him that the battery was real, but the engine was fake. I said the real engine was in the trunk. He kind of laughed and said that despite the fact that it was all over the internet, they found one in an all star car. Didn't ask who and I am sure he would not say either.

Awesome pictures, thanks so much! Glad to see the weather was good there. We haven't seen the sun in days, the winds off the lake have made Chicago be very gray, foggy and cool. Looks like sun here today for the first time all week!

Interesting about the battery. We can all be so very creative in this sport, can't we!?!

Rumor is if all the stars align today, we can be home by this evening. If he feels up to it we will come by the track tomorrow. Not much opportunity to rest in this place, even though you are in bed almost all day. But he feels 110% better and ready to bust outta here!

I was finally asked about mine race-before-last. I was going to weld mine, instead of buying those things. Came time to put the engine back in (very tough to get my headers in & out) I found my Argon bottle was empty. I put the engine & trans in and ordered a set. Thinking about proving I had them, when you can't see under my car, I took pictures of both side's tethers from the bottom with my iPhone, while the car was up on the lift. I put the reciept in the glove box. When I was finally asked about them, they seemed happy with pictures and the reciept. Might want to take pictures of them when you install them.
