Default Tether Update

from NHRA

Just a quick update to the collector tether rule….

• All racers will need to purchase an NHRA-accepted unit or weld the collector to suffice the rule.
• Only those mass producing tether units will be allowed to submit said unit for approval to get on the NHRA-accepted list.
• At least one, possible two companies will be posting contingency for their collector tether product.

Any questions, contact NHRA Tech.

Rock..

CBS,

Just my opinion, and a quote from another post.

Damn Bob ! ........ easy there ! .........

Jok, its the principle ...... How do I get NHRA approval/acceptance on my vinyl lettering , so racers "Have to buy from me !!!!!

My son and I can build complete race cars ...... but we can't make a freeking teather !

Give me a break !

Happy Thanksgiving

Im not against some sort of teather/retainer devise as I've seen it happen and a friend got hurt pretty bad ....... I just don't like how NHRA is handling it .

They could set a guideline where a racer could make their own .... and then allow the techs be the judge.............

Thanks Rock !

Well you could contact them and inquire what I would cost to become a contingency sponsor! LOL

I understand the rule but don't. Guys like myself who do regular maintenance and check things over between races have to take up for those who don't and buy the tethers. My dragster headers have mounting tabs on all for primaries where the collector bolts up w/ stainless hardware w/ nylon inserted lock nuts. The parts to make these kits are 10-20 bucks if that and the companies are making 1000% on the mark up.

Mark Lelchook's new approved tethers are by far the simplest solution. No sense ranting any more...it's done.

I find it interesting that the Performance Welding ones are no more than what most of us already have. A wedled tab with a nut and bolt. Only difference being they use a wire rope between the mounting points. Dont understand how it is any better than what 99.9% of us already have....Just saying Mark is a good guy and makes great stuff for sure, just find this design a bit curious.

If you're using "nylock" nuts on your exhaust, you should be first in line for the tether set up. I do agree however that you should be able to make your own under the guide lines NHRA provides.

With my headers having a 3 bolt flange that's welded on and my extensions with a 3 bolt flange that's welded on and these are bolted together do I need the tether ?
I would think that 3 --3/8" bolts would be plenty strong enough to keep the extension on !!!
