We have a 2008 6.4 at my work that was rebuilt by Ford when it blew at 98K. We also had a 2006 that I think was also the 6.4. The 2006 was costing us way too much to keep running and it finally gave up around 175K. (sold it non-running)
The problem areas are the injectors and exhaust valve cooler. Also the cab has to come off to acess some of the engine for repairs. Ours were both F-450 chassis cabs. I think a low mileage truck would be okay but I wouldn't buy one that was out of warranty. Last edited by Mike Gray; 10-22-2012 at 03:59 PM. |

Your partner might want to look into the cost of a aftermarket extended warranty
if he is looking at trucks that are past the 100K factory warranty. The one I bought cost me $1900.00 but only downside is it is a mechanical items only and I recently lost the fuel injection computer at a cost of $1200.00 My truck is a 2004 F350 with the 6.0 motor
