.000 Timer??
I see a lot on the boards including this one about the first timer being set at .000. I don't understand how that works, can someone please elaborate on the .000 timer setting.
Thanks, Brad |

Re: .000 Timer??
Ran it for years that way. The momentum of the launch RPM pulled it through the beams. 60 foots were fine. Only problem is when I had the car back halved it wouldn't jump like it used to. Now I set it at .150 and all is well again.

Re: .000 Timer??
If you bracket race the same car like I do, you don't want to have two sets of delay box numbers, so you should set the first timer to allow the car to clear the starting line before the stop affects it. Use your vehicle reaction time as the minimum setting. For example, on a .500 tree I run (say) 1.060 in the box, meaning it takes 1.500 (top amber to green) less 1.060 = .440 total reaction time for my thumb plus the car. Take away another .180 for human reaction time (verified by hitting a practice tree with no delay or rollout), and you get .260. So I run .270 as my first timer setting. If I use less, I have no guarantee the car is not reacting differently.

Re: .000 Timer??
The closer to the starting line you can go on the stop will maximize your mph ability.
Most stops will not close fast enough to not allow you to clear the tree. I have a 2835 lb S/St car that with first # @ .005 will go 147-149. With first # @ .000 I go 151-153. simply a longer run to finish li\ne allows you a few extra rpm. My .02
