Default Buying In Car Camera

I am considering purchasing an in car camera. Does anyone recommend a certain kind or the best place to purchase one? I am looking at the Replay XD but would like to hear opinions. I am not sure if the ones that are like a helmet cam or the one that mounts on the roll bar is better.

Check with Jim Schaechter, they had one mounted in their Chevy 2. There was a post about in car cameras some time back and he said what kind it was and the price. About to get the Firebird back together? J Gower M/S 3058

I had 2-3 customers who bought one called the "Hero", and I saw some really good video from it.

From what I've found, the HD Motorsports Hero is the best for the money. You can get all sorts of different ways to mount it, but that suction cup that comes with it aint moving.

yes the gopro hero is the best...you can buy a motorsports version that comes with a few different mounts specially for cars, such as the roll bar mount.

We use the RePlay XD in Brogdons PS car and have since last April when we got one of the first ones out. Have loved the results. used them mounted on the roll cage, mounted on the helmet and use a second one to monitor the wheelie bars/rear suspension on every run.

Thing I like best about them is they will run for 90 minutes on a charge. Don't need to keep batteries on hand. Everything downloads onto a micro SD card. I download the videos after every run, takes me about 10 minutes to download & edit a couple of videos.

The Comp guys are loving them!

I had bought a cheapo flip camera to put on my brothers dirt car ( did not want to spend a lot of $$ to see it get ran over haha) , they are $99.00 from best buy...I mounted mine on my brothers mini sprint dirt car and was blown away by the quality of the picture and the sound (for being on a rough dirt track)..It has 1/4 mounting thread on the bottom, i used a L bracket that i hose clamped to the cage and then used wide masking tape to make sure it did not fall off haha.I really think it has a picture as good as any but its not as easy to mount as others, its cheap though and very tough.
I will post a link to the video below, and also a link where i mounted it rather quickly ( and way to low ) in the car i was driving at the bracket final in Ennis..

It actually takes till about 2.40 into the video before the race actually starts

Drag race video (can not see much and i did not put maskin tape on it so its not real steady)

And oh yeah this one is kinda neat with the camera facing backwards..The track is very tacky and he has a pretty good engine in his car which shines on a tacky track ( Can not do any thing to the engines, so yes it has a few stock eliminator tricks LOL!) Turns the engine 16,200 rpm.

The heat race starts about 2.00 into the video below.
