Battery
What do you all use for a 12 volt battery. I've got the 1257 Rock and it sucks.. Doing research, the Braile looks the best because the specs say it has 200 more cranking amps...
I've got an 09 undercover with a CSR platinum starter, cranking a 615 BBC. Space is an issue with them if you dont know, battery goes all the way in the front. Thanks for the help!! Last edited by 199k; 08-02-2009 at 09:59 PM. |

Re: Battery
If you have room for two batteries, then the CSR 24-volt system is tops. Nothing beats spinning over a big inch engine than 24 volts. As for batteries, both my cars have Odysseys from East Coast Auto Electric.

199k,
Have you called Rock to discuss the battery? I use their 16v stuff and love it. Chip Johnson |

Re: Battery
You may want to consider giving Mark Payne a call @ House of Payne and getting a good starter. I had issues with that start you are using cranking my 505. I replaced it with one of Marks with no more issues.

Re: Battery
I had been using Optima red top batteries for the last few years, but after a couple that didn't seem up to par I decided to try something different. So, I switched this year to the XS Power S1200 from Powermaster, and so far so good. It's a little smaller and lighter than the Optima, and according to the specs has slightly less cranking amps and reserve capacity (I run a 12V system with an alternator). But, if the outside construction is any indication of the quality of the internals, this thing is going to last (it really is a nice piece, and clearly built for racing).
I also decided to invest in a good automatic battery charger (one with logic that monitors the battery voltage and automatically shuts off when it is time). Overcharging of the battery leads to outgassing which significantly reduces the lifetime of AGM batteries. Schumacher Electric makes a couple that can be purchased for under $100.

Re: Battery
Had a pair of Otima Red Tops, went thru 3 flywheels in 14 passes[with CSR Platium starter] replaced with 2 16v Rock batteries, end of problems.
