Keith -- Tony's hands were never tied and he left on his own to become a full time Fireman..........a lifelong passion for him .

I think Bob Lang threatened Billy with the position many years ago, to which Billy replied with an evil chuckle, "I'm the LAST thing you need!"
...but I think that they really could use Billy, or his junk-yarding partner.
