Base line setup for 8.90’s
Ok, please don’t crash into one another trying to follow me up for first round this year! But I am gonna put my big toe in the SC shark infested waters of D1 this season! The car is a 2014 dual shock Miller, 2050lbs race ready , 1180hp 598, 1250 max speed.
What starting line RPM, on stop time , off stop time and cruise rpm should I start out with? |

Re: Base line setup for 8.90’s
I have nowhere near the experience or knowledge to give sound advice (not to mention I run a different class and combo), but I will say that my initial settings haven't varied a whole lot since my first pass on the stop: .15 first timer, .35 shift (was .65, but picked up a bit of MPH with the earlier shift) and anywhere between 2.55 and 3.00 stop time depending on track, weather and opponent. Cruise RPM 4200.
Best of luck to you. You might want to consider running the Mid-Atlantic .90 Series in addition to the Divisionals. Great group of racers and with 2 races per weekend, you can get a lot of seat time. |

That's probably a good starting point. Of course there are only another 1,453,798 other combos to try also. C'mon in the water is fine.............

My S/C setup is very abnormal so I can't give any direct advice, but I feel that this is a good general guide:

Re: Base line setup for 8.90’s
Hey Rob,
Would love for you to come play with us in the Mid Atlantic .90 Series. Like Marc said 2 races per weekend and you get a lot of seat time (At least 6 runs) and if you go out early you can sometimes run a few test shots to gain some data. Same shark invested waters and drivers in D1 so this would allow you to meet a few racers and we do a BBQ every Saturday Night to let everyone meet new people. We run at Cecil twice, Atco twice and Maple Grove once and 3 of the 5 events are the weekends before the NHRA rolls into town. The payouts are good and it might not be a Wally but, our trophies are pretty cool. If you want more info throw me a message. Rob K. PS - I know your on the e-mail list, just making a pitch to have you come play Last edited by BKSG1198; 02-22-2018 at 11:01 AM. |

One good source of info would be APD since you listed a MaxSpeed carb as part of your combination. Those carbs can work great or not so great from what I have seen. A setup that throws you curveballs will quickly make you want to quit stop racing. No different than an unpredictable bracket car. The numbers given in an earlier post should be a real good starting point. A T&T day can help a lot.

Re: Base line setup for 8.90’s
Thanks for the info, keep it coming!
Rob, I am planning to be at several of your races. Just bring lots of duct tape and Bondo for the guys wrecking to get beside me. Rich, The engine and converter were in my Davis Vette I ran in SG for a year until I sold it and bought the dragster. Have done some stop racing, just not SC in a dragster. Decided I am going to give the Camaro a go at 9.90’s and the dragster a shot in 8.90 this year. Last edited by rob7181; 02-22-2018 at 10:53 PM. Reason: Additions |
