Default Memphis next?

Is this the end? Memphis Raceway’s fate in near future

MEMPHIS, Tenn.– Could the roar and rumble of dragsters and stock cars be leaving an iconic Shelby County racetrack? There are rumors Memphis International Raceway might be closing at the end of May.

Social media is buzzing about the possible closing and demolishing of the facility and there’s even petition to keep it open.

It’s a deafening roar that gives avid drag racing fans goosebumps and has been the signature sound of Memphis International Raceway since it opened in the late 1980’s.

Clay Millican from Drummonds, Tennessee is a six time IHRA World Champion who’s grown up racing at this facility near Millington. He’s shocked by rumors the drag strip, two drift tracks, an auto-cross and a NASCAR track could soon be closed and demolished, possibly making way for a warehouse complex.

The last track owned by IRG. A major clown show from the start. I believe this is the last one they had. The others are still open.

I believe PBIR is a sister IHRA track to Memphis, PBIR is becoming a Walmart warehouse complex. Closing April 23 for good. They sold the stands and timing systems already. Get this, they are selling the last laps on each track for $500., they can go "F" themselves!

Since Memphis is where Hot Rod's Drag Week is supposed to start and stop this year this subject is of great interested to the Drag Week community.

Brian Lohnes did a little investigation for us and confirmed the track is sold and the employees are already finding jobs other places.
