I have the season ending record list from 1962..It does not list any stock records.......the 1962 NHRA Nationals class winners lists stock stick cars down through L/S and automatic cars down through G/SA........it also lists A/FX B/FX C/FX and SS/S S/S SS/SA and S/SA as being in stock eliminator......the fastest of those class winners was Micky Thompson A/FX 12.66 @115.68..........Stock eliminator was won by Hayden Profitt with a SS/S Chevy 12.82 @113.92..........no handicap racing then......everyone heads up with a flagman

Neil, we had handicap racing then. 25' per class. The flag man moved out to the front of the car getting the spot. I believe 250' Max? My '56 wagon (before the N/S sedan ) got the same spot from a D/S as an A/S.

looking for facts in 1960-63 Dragsters I found that no stock classrecords were keep till 1962,
Which I didn't remember as we ran D/sa in our 59 Pontiac @ Detroit & Toledo + other dragways in 61 & 62. & yes I remember getting or giving the "car spot" and the 1st two cars to set class records were : A/s Elwin Westbrook from Ontario, calif in a 60 Chevy at 14.06 & 99.88. The other record set that div in Memphis,Tenn was Roy Dye from Memphis in E/Sa 62 Chevy mph only @ 89.82 At least they were the 1st to be listed in the July 13, 1962 National Dragster. |
