NMCA Cobra Jet Showdown Update

Attention Cobra Jet owners and dealers,

We are only a few weeks away from the largest gathering of Cobra Jet's to date!

Please read this update on the Cobra Jet Showdown!

You asked for it and I am happy to deliver the Cobra Jet Showdown, even bigger and better with a third class for CIC racing!

With three classes all Cobra Jet owners can come out and participate. No excuses!

Experience your Cobra Jet in the company of other owners and the team that designed and built it!

The Cobra Jet Showdown will take place in Milan, MI during the NMCA race August 26th. This is the weekend prior to Indy.

We will have guests on-site from Ford and our suppliers to discuss aspects of the car that can help you get the most out of your Cobra Jet.

*NEW*Cobra Jet Competition-Index-Class presented by Diversified Products for all Cobra Jet variants
Diversified Products, NMCA and Ford racing are proud to add a third class to the Cobra Jet Showdown.
The Competition Index format allows for all Cobra Jet variants not eligible for heads-up Stock and Super Stock competition to compete!
Competition Format:

• The class will be heads up with a staggered start based on the vehicle's NHRA natural class index. This is commonly referred to as a Competition Index Class.
• Minimum of 5 cars must register for the class or it will not be run.
• Starting index carries through all rounds - there will be no index lowering between rounds like Competition Eliminator

Purse:

• Prizes for the Competition Index Class will be awarded to winner and Runner-up in the amounts of $1000 and $500.

Class Rules:

• Class is designed for cars not eligible for other Cobra Jet heads-up classes. All 2.3 SC Stock Cobra Jet's and 4.0L SC Super Stock Cobra Jet's must participate in their respective heads-up classes.
• No Cobra Jet may participate in more than one class.
• Any Cobra Jet must pass respective NHRA Stock or Super Stock tech with the following exceptions: Any tire allowed, passenger and rear seat removal allowed.

Vehicle Base Weights:

• Total vehicle weight minimum with driver is curb weight as listed in the NHRA Stock Car Classification
• Stock Car Classification can be found on NHRA.com under Competition.

Tech Inspection:

• Participants are subject to tech inspection in accordance with NMCA rules. Do not enter your Cobra Jet for competition if you are not prepared to prove the legality and compliance of your vehicle.
• See NMRA General Regulations and NHRA rulebook for full details.

Class Safety Requirements:

• It is the participant's responsibility to familiarize oneself with the requirements as found in the 2011 NMCA and 2011 NHRA rulebook.
• The participant agrees that the participant bears the ultimate responsibility at all times to ensure the safety of the participant's vehicle and to ensure that participant complies with all applicable NHRA and
• NMCA rules. The participant agrees that participant is in the best position to know about the construction and operation of the participant's vehicle, equipment, and clothing, and whether there has been compliance with all applicable NHRA and NMCA rules.

Example of vehicle weights and elimination run
Vehicle 1:
2010 4.6L 3v Cobra Jet Stocker coupe automatic - 3050lbs as listed on NHRA.com
This is a natural J Stock Automatic with an index of 12.45et
Vehicle 2:
2008 5.4L Cobra Jet Super Stocker coupe automatic - 3240lbs as listed on NHRA.com
This is a natural Super Stock D Automatic with an index of 10.20et
In eliminations:

• The difference in index for these two vehicles is 2.25 seconds (12.45 - 10.20 = 2.25)
• Vehicle 2 will leave first
• Vehicle 1 will leave 2.25 seconds later
• The first vehicle to cross the finish line wins!

We have had numerous racers contact us about exceptions to NHRA rules that are in the spirit of this competition and offer no performance advantage. We are willing to work with you and make this a fun event for all. If you have any questions or concerns contact me. For Example: tubular control arms offer no inherent performance advantage and we will allow with a minor weight penalty.


Cobra Jet Showdown Event Details
Entrance Fee:
This event is being offered free of charge to all Cobra Jet owners thanks to NMCA and Ford Racing. However pre-registration is required!
Registration:
Contact Gene Bergstrom at 714-460-3813. You will need to inform Gene which of the three classes you plan to participate in (Super Stock, Stock or CIC) and the size of your rig. You must register!
Once you have registered with Gene print off this application, it will serve as your ticket at the gate.

Event Schedule:
The Ford Racing Cobra Jet Showdown will run in conjunction with the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals.
A full event schedule with qualifying and elimination times will be provided by NMCA on-site.
Thursday August 25th - NMCA will be on site from 12-5pm and allow Cobra Jet Showdown participants early parking.
Friday August 26th - Gates open at 12pm. Qualifying starts at 3pm.
Saturday August 27th - Eliminations
Sunday August 28th - Eliminations will be held Sunday in the event of poor weather Saturday.
