Default East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame Reunion

I am not going to steal someones post so I started a new one. There is a new post on the site looking for information about an old drag race car from the East coast. All during the year these come up someone looking for information on a car or a car a relative had/drove.

Every year about the third week-end of the year we have a three (3) day, October 15, 16, 17, Drag Racing Reunion event in Henderson, North Carolina. Nancy Wilson (Miss ZIP) has worked hard over the years to bring this event from a group of guy/girls and families getting together at the lake to what is now one of the biggest drag racing events in the country. See eastcoastdragracinghalloffame.com

On Saturday, there are hundreds of old racers and race cars in Henderson, NC. On Sunday, at the Hall of Fame Induction out at the Community College, there is a room set up where Drivers and their families (deceased racer) have all of their old scrape books old magazines, promotion posters from drag strips. If you or a family member raced on the East Coast in the 50's, 60's or 70's you will more than likely meet someone you lost contact with over the years or someone you wanted a chance to meet. Many of the cars are unrestored. They are exactly as they were last raced down the track. Of course the drivers and owners are unrestored also, so most of us are a little rough around the edges also. There are collectors at this event many who have several old drag race cars or know where they are now.

The event is not limited to only East Coast. We have had some West Coast racers to attend and this year we will have some West Coast cars to attend, coming this year, anyone ever hear of Stone/Wood & Cook? Anyone ever hear of the Ramchargers? The remaining (surviving) members of this group will be in Henderson this year. Inside Drag Racing TV will be back also. I know there are some of you guys/gals and family members who have never attended this event. Now that I am back racing I have had the opportunity to meet some familiar faces at the tracks. Come on out to this event, no charge unless you buy from vendors, I will promise you, it will be the time of your life.

If you like classic cars there will be cars on Garnett Street from one end of town to the other 1,000+

Danny you are one of the racers I was thinking about when I posted that part of the post. Other guys like you that we race with some many years ago and that I got to see again at the legends race at Kinston. I know there is a schedule confict for some people but this event has been the same dates for years. Most people make their motel reservations on the Sunday when they leave for the next year. If you and others could arrange in your schedule to attend I know you would really enjoy it. Just like the fun we had at Kinston only in a much grander scale. If you or any others do get to attend. Look me up I will have my Duster there and will be either at my car or at Dean Sox's Sox & Martin car.

Bret, I look forward each year to seeing you there and talking with you. For any of you that have not had the privlige of hearing this gentleman speak at one of the induction ceremonies or talking with him in person, you have missed a treat. Bret is a walking library of drag racing history. If you have an old drag strip that you remember be sure to ask him if it is in his data base of old drag strips. See you in Henderson in a couple of weeks.

One day away. We raced some cars that will be in Henderson on Tuesday night at Z-Max for the NASCAR Children's Charity and plan to run tonight at Piedmont, weather permitting then we move on to Henderson to the Reunion. David Sox will be re-united with the Sox & Martin car and plans to make a pass down the track for old times. Had a lot of people looking, taking photos and just remembering how it was when those cars were the top of the show. The Sox & Martin car, as always, drew a lot of attention, along with all of the crew members with the Ronald Lyles car dressed in the team uniform just like most remember. Going to be a nice week-end weather wise and should be a huge crowd. Hope to see you in Henderson, NC.

If you did not get to Henderson for the Reunion this past week-end it was huge. I believe that it can now be classed as one of, if not the biggest car events, of it's type on the east coast. Got to see alot of old friends and friends that I have not seen in over 35 years. Mr. Bo Laws I had not seen since we raced in the old days of Modified Production racing. Got to talk with the remaining members of the Ramchargers and the time that I got to talk with Mr. Tom Hoover, the father of the 426 Hemi, yesterday was priceless. Heard on the street yesterday, one of the Hall of Fame inductees has a new super stock hemi car coming out next year and it ain't no new car.

The display of drag race cars went back over 60 years. The replica of the "High and Mighty" car was something to see. There were old drag race cars and racers on the street and there were current drag race cars on display in the parking lot right beside them. Mike, I am sorry that I did not see your post about the Hall of Fame induction on Sunday. Every year, third week in October, the Hall of Fame Induction takes place at the Vance-Granvillle Community College. A lot of the race cars are on display prior to the ceremony beginning at 12:30. Following the ceremony there is a lunch buffet served. The event is usually over by about 3:30 or 4:00 pm.

If the good Lord is willing, we will all be able to make it back together again next year.
