Duster ! Take a good look at the class wins at Indy, the small block DP cars run E F G H. I would wait until nhra makes a decision on how to factor all the new bogus combos weather DP or CJ. Or if you are going to run IHRA at least they have separate classes for them.
Keep your 64, fits more classes.

I've just joined classracer.com and this is my first post. I have done some bracket racing and a little supercomp racing. I have a 1964 Plymouth Savoy and a 1965 Plymouth Belvedere. I am planning on going stock racing next spring and was thinking of starting out with maybe a 383 combination and working my way up from there once I learn what the heck I'm doing. Does anyone have any ideas as to which car would be the best platform with the engine combinations that are available? Both cars are in equaly excellant shape. My only concern is that with the Cobras and Dragpacks dominating the upper classes, am I wasting my time with a goal of racing A or B stock in the future. Maybe I should sell both cars and race a Duster in a lower class.

Run the 383. Its less expensive and you wont have to run a DP or CJ until the manufacturers start putting the enges into large station wagons.....LOL.

Thanks for your input, would the 65 be a better platform for the 383 then the 64?

I like the look of a 64 better myself even though I owned a 65 Belvedere when new. I think either would be about the same performance wise. Both are cool looking though.

426Fred-------- I have and race a 65 Coronet in SS/CA, and I would race the 64 Ply, if I had the option ! The 64 lends itself to better choice's for stock or should I say MORE choice's ! Anything from the 383-426S wedge to the Max Wedge ! Take your pick ! You'll have a Blast ! I also about the HEMI, (how could I forget that) ! Later............John

Hi Fred, the contact phone number for John Shaul is (518) 827-5463. I would wait a week or so before calling as he went out in the first round at Indy. He is the man to talk to. He has a very fast 1965 Dodge Coronet 383 car. I believe it runs I/SA. He also has a 1967 Barracuda 383 car in F/SA that is also very fast. I would go with the 64 car if you intend to move up to the faster classes later on. The 65 car is competitive right now with a 273, and the 383. The 426 street wedge is not a real good combination. Good luck with your projects.

I talked to John at the Nat's about this same subject. His suggestion was to run the '64 with the 383, the problem with the 426S is that it must breathe through the same heads and carb as the 383. The carb is just not big enough to allow the extra cubes to breathe, plus the 383 HP is lower.
