Can someone explain the logic behind random pairing first round for the National. I understand not wanting to give 8 bye runs first round but couldn't they wait and see if anyone even pulled out and went home before they made this decision. They are giving us a time run... If you look at the run sheet and check off to see who makes the pass (I realize the divisional only cars are running this time run) then make that decision.
I don't have a problem with it I'm just thinking if only maybe 1 or 2 cars went home they might have jumped the gun on throwing away the ladder. I for one liked my position on the ladder as I only had one M car on my side and i didn't have to meet them till the semi's I know others strategically qualify too, to avoid other class cars and other family members in the early rounds. any body else's thoughts? Basically, not having a lot of bye runs is the reason. This rule has been in place for at least 12 years. I remember running the Gators a week later in '98 and it was random pairing.
The race that was mainly responsible for this rule was a race at Columbus I believe. I think it was a divisional, but it was rescheduled four months later. When it was finally run some people were getting two byes because a lot of people didn't return. I would rather have it this way than somebody making a judgment call on whether we should run random pairing or not. As I stated in the other thread there are no heads-up runs during random pairings. -Toby |

To any casual fan who would follow the sequence of events at races in the past few years, it would be obvious that there is something wrong with the way the organization is being run,on and off the track. Example.Them being embarrassed by the Pro Stock drivers to postpone the rest of their eliminations at Phoenix. If these racers were sheep there was the potential for another disaster on the track on Monday.Good for them speaking up.Too bad a show of solidarity by sportsman racers couldn't produce better results for us.

I realize that it's to avoid bye runs, but if Comp & alcohol were there, they would remain on a ladder. Bye runs or not.

my thouhghts exactly TD would have remained on the ladder even if they didnt get the first 2 pairs off..
Like i said i dont really care i didnt know it was a rule i just wanted to get other people opinions. and super street was random pair and they are keeping their pairs that they were line up next to.. wierd that stock and SS would go ladder-less good luck everyone! |

I'm pretty sure top dragster would've been random pairing if they hadn't already started eliminations. Super street would have been random pairing again had they not already run two pair.

It happened at a points meet in Englishtown a few years ago. I was number 1 and figured I'd get the bye (there was and uneven number of cars) Well the next week there was still an uneven number of cars and they randomly picked the bye run. And I had to insist they give me the low qualifier check.
They had " forgotten" about it.

I think the random pairing thing also changes the car count which changes the payouts!
That is the most logical answer I could come up with. By the way, Does anyone know what happens to the qualifying and class runs with regards to the AHFS? |
