Back in the 70's... th ePittsburgh Pirates moved from old "Forbes Field" to the brand new "Three Rivers Stadium". This became the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers for many years.
Did you know they actually had a drag race in the stadium (on the field)? How about a 300 ft track with a shutdown area that exited throught the centerfield wall and into the parking lot. I heard they laid down pieces of steel to race on. They even used a flag starter. One of Pittsburgh finest won the race..... anyone remember who? THESE ARE ALL BILL TRUBY PICS..... ![]()

"more fun than a pirates game????"
Not in the seventies..... two world series titles (1971 and 1979). I went to 4 of the games in 1971 (two in pittsburgh and game 6 and 7 in Baltimore). It was awesome. Clemente was THE best! Also went to 2 of the 7 games in the 1979 series. Winner again. However..... the race in there was pretty cool. here's the stadium.......... these are all Bill Truby pics ![]()

Many, many times.
I saw a lot of Bucco games there (I still pine for the old days), a lot of Steeler games, and even some Pitt-Penn State games there back in the seventies. I remember the race there, but I did not attend. Remember some years back PRP had a "Thunder in the Burgh" thing where they blocked off the street between Heinz Field and PNC Park and ran them off? I heard they got a good reaction, and a good turn out, I don't know why it stopped. My guess is some kind of politics. |

Not sure Joe..... but a 66 biscayne did win stock/ss that day.
Rumor was he (not named yet), he told the flagman that if he gave him a redflag, he'd come back and run him over!... lol ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
