What's the actual deal w/ the safety equipment rule..........
I understand stock and ss'rs now need fire pants (single layer for stock / 2ply for SS)? What about the neck collar? In the rule book it says mandatory for SS.... but it doesn't appear in the GT section, or the Modified section? Do we need em or don't we? Can anyone who has been out this year tell me what they're looking for? Please don't get on my case..... it's been a long winter! thanx

We were at the Dallas D4 race last weekend, and upon tech, they checked my dad's neck collar as if it was manditory. However, some of the D4 racers, who are supposed to have them, didn't. No one questioned why they didn't have one, and one racer that I talked to, didn't even know it was manditory.
Another question...what is the best neck collar out there? The one my dad uses is so thick that he can't turn his head at all which made it impossible to see the other lane at the finish line, unless he was coming from behind. Also, during his first qualifying run, he actually had to stop against the right lane guardrail because he couldn't determine if it was safe to his left to turn onto the return road (from fear of being t-boned by the slower car that might not be able to make the turn for some reason). There's gotta be a thinner collar that allows for more head and neck movement from left to right. That would also avoid ripping it off as soon as he crossed the finish line, which is against the rules (Greg Anderson). Any suggestions?

SS/I and up are supposed to have multi-layer pants, jacket, and neck collar. GT rules are supposed to be the same as SS except where noted differently in the rule book, right? That's how I read it. Wesley told me at Ennis if I moved up to SS/IA I would have to have the multi-layer jacket, pants and neck collar. Just single layer SS/J and lower.

Ed - That's how I read it also. The racer I discussed this with at Dallas, was a 9.90 SS car that should have been required to have the neck brace. It would appear, at Dallas, anyway, that they are not enforcing this rule yet. Just my observation, although limited. I could be mistaken, as this is just one example.

Can you turn your head at all with a HANS (ie: to be able to look around when being chased)? I've got two screwed up disks in my neck and my wife would like to see me in a neck collar since the doc tells me I'm at risk of serious injury with even mild trauma.. I told her if they fuse my neck we gotta build a faster car so I always chase!!!
