Default Track owners/ managers.... CCRA

Well now there's another good reason to migrate south, Here in the GREAT north we can't even get a track owner/ manager to talk to us about anything that has to do with Class cars they have no interest, I guess that's the difference between owning/ running a drag strip purely as a business and giving some of the " out of the box bracket racers" a place to show their stuff. I'll admit I'm jealous although we do have some of the nicest racing facilities anywhere close by, it's the almighty dollar ( legions of bracket racers) that the owners/ managers cater to. I understand that every business needs to see a margin, that's why their in business, but I feel we all need to help preserve the very roots of drag racing "My cars faster than yours and I'm gonna prove it" bottom line that's how it all started.I applaud Herb on this association and HIS efforts to bring in back. Wish there were more like him! I really can't believe that properly ran and promoted that these races wouldn't draw a lot of spectators, after all isn't that what an owner / manager wants, butts in the seats? Joe

Joe,
We all agree ! I am a bracket racer turned Stock racer and like Herb, am in the middle of putting something together around the North East area. I have found that there are a few track owners that still love the Stock/SuperStock classes and that is the tracks I am targeting.

Joe , Smith has that Can/Am thing but it's only in Canada ( think they need to rename that series )

If someone put together a few races in this area , how many would actually support it ?
That just might be the big question.

Bud

P.S. - this may have been better posted in events ?????

Bud, yes I'm aware of the Can-Am series I guess the border crossing thing kind of turns me away from that. I believe they used to have 1-2 races @ milan but I don't think they do anymore. The guys I know who run the series all say they love it and get good turn outs not quite sure why someone couldn't get it going here in the states. Obviously Herb is working on it however the logistics are not favorable for me and I'm sure for you as well judging from your location. I'd support a local or regional series ( of course the travel distance would be a factor). Now that IHRA has all but Excluded people in our area, I'm starting to look for viable options. We still have races around but all are 3-6 hour away and some of the tracks are less than desireable to race on. Jim I also applaude your efforts I hope that you can acqire some good tracks to run on. I guess it will always remain true you" can't please all the people all the time" Joe

Yes , they're were a couple at Milan, but not sure why they quit doing them on this side of the border.

How many cars would you need to have what would be considered a "good " showing to aproach a track owner ?

Well I'm certainly not a promoter however I feel you would need at least 4 rounds worth, this keeps the time to run the program down while still making it a SHOW. I believe if you don't have heads up runs you at least have to try and pair up the closest E.T.'s as to at least give the HeadsUP effect for the most part most people really do understand that concept. Many years ago we tried having a" Stick" series in this area it was cooly recieved even though we had some sponsor help from Mr. Gasket/ Hays for the most part the track operators had no real interest. In my opinion it would require a lot of effort along with good contacts with the aftermarket suppliers to make a series work well however I believe it can be done also it would require the real support of the racers in question. I saw a $5000.00 to win idea on here and thought to myself I'd be crazy not to support that of course the location and dates would have an effect on that. Joe
