I need education about the G body rear suspension. I just bought a 1984 Cutlass [one of the factory race cars with 12 bolt, never been on the street, always been a race car, no title, sold with a bill of sale]
The car has always been run as a stocker with relatively low power. I plan to install a SBC of about 550 horse and bracket race in no E/foot brake and some index racing 6.5 - 7.0 classes. Of course, it has a 9" tire and not much room for any larger [I do not want to cut the car except for minor trimming if needed.] Help me with a good setup for this situation. It will weigh around 3050 - 3100 with driver. |

TRZ will be your friend here - adjustable upper and lower trailing arms and adjustable ARB. They’re well respected in the heads-up small tire d.o.t. crowd, the parts are very nice quality, their combination works and they know what they’re talking about. If I was building another G Body, I’d go there first.

If you're going to run it in stock..not sure about adjustable lower trailing arm.
Adjustable upper is good and I believe you can box the lower. |

I believe the question was for an index foot brake/bracket car— not a Stocker?

Mike, I do not know about the 12 bolt. The car is one of the Olds factory race cars and it came with the 12 bolt. But since it is an 84 model, I expect it is the old style 12 bolt. I will know more soon. It is a cool car in excellent condition. Been a stocker all its life, never street driven.
These pics may shed some light. |
