I just ordered a new camshaft for my car... NO firing order. Supposed to save HUGE money and time. Engine won't run, so you are forced to stop throwing endless money down a rat-hole, trying to have fun drag racing. Supposedly, other guys who have bought them have already adapted to the new configuration, and are sitting in lawn chairs, on their decks, drinking beer and sleeping in the sun. Can't wait...

Only works on specific applications and will not work with carburetors and dual plane intake manifolds. The LS has the Ford firing order, however, they do not run a dual plane intake with a carburetor.

We have tried single and double swaps on our old Mopars.......
No help that we can find in performance. But it never fails to Confuse me when we R and R the Distributor or Cap!

LS firing order. don't use with a dual plane intake.. Make sure the headers are correct, too. Might see a little HP if all is right, but will definitely see better main bearing life and possibly timing chain wear.
BTW: One of the stories on why Ford did it on some HO 302 and all 351 W's was to stop breaking cranks and have less front main wear.

I recently had a 565 built by Schmidt, the father of the 7/4 swap. He put a cam with the LS firing order in it so I sat down with him and talked if it would benefit my stocker motor.
He basically said the 7/4 swap usually sees a small gain in HP but no big difference with the 4cyl swap. He said the advantage with the LS firing order is it drastically improves harmonics in the motor and is easier on the bearings. Sitting in my rail the LS firing order definitely is a lot smother at idle. More than likely I’ll have a cam ground with the LS firing order when it’s ready for its 1st rebuild. |
