...are powerglides from b-body wagons different from the sedan coupe offerings...ratios? coolers?

to my knowledge GM only built two ratios. 1.76 or 1.82. Generally, smaller engines used the 1.82 and larger engines used the 1.76. But you could find just the opposite of that in some combinations. In addition, as the powerglide equipped car aged and the trans were overhauled, sometimes more than once during the service life of the unit, changes were often made or used trans installed, etc. So just because you find a certain trans in a certain car it has a reasonable chance of not being the original setup. There were some minor internal differences through the years. thanx...car is a 67 Impala 275 hp 327 and has original powerglide...

In that instance it is most likely a 1.76 low with a 5 clutch pack high gear. It will be worth tearing down and checking. If it is in good shape most of the internal hard parts will be fine for a race build up.
I do highly recommend you buying the Carl Munroe book to help with your powerglide parts knowledge. |

Just pull out the input shaft. The 1.76 is 12 7/8" and the 1.82 is 12 5/8" long.
