For several years it"s bugged the f..- out of me why a professional driver has trouble making it to the turn off after a run, excluding all the "normal" grenades and such. After watching Sunday, I now think think they purposely stop on the track surface to gain more TV coverage for their sponsors. BS I say.

I think a lot of it may have to do if the clutch has welded itself solid,
I think on some tracks if they pull both the chutes they will just stop before the exit. However in recent years NHRA has come up with methods to get them off the track quicker than in years past. |

I too have heard the clutch plates and disks often get fused together. But that being said I have not seen the engine rotating as they push the car off?? Does that reverser also have a neutral?

It makes sense that while on the track they must wait for the Safety Saferie to uncouple a locked up situation. Confirmation would be appreciated.
