Default Live From Topeka NHRA Div 5 Double

Since nobody else is doing this, I'll try my best to get it started. We're having gorgeous weather, with highs around 90 and cool nights. Typical Topeka headwinds but not too strong. In Stock we have 72 cars, with the number 1 spot going to Tyler Cassil in the COPO out of the Patterson shop.
The grounds are a bit out of shape here, needs a good going over with an
army of weedwackers. The Safety Safari is here, which is pretty cool. I raced Deb Fickler in round 1, in her cool V6 El Camino built originally by Bob Shaw. Thanks to Phil Unruh, we can all follow along on DRC...plus nhradiv5.com has live timing on. I'll try to upload some pics later. Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention SS, #1 is Bill Rink (Bad Grandpa) in the 74 GTO.

Thanks Paul.. I would like to see that red COPO if you have time. Thanks to Phil and his sponsoring the DRC reports.

Why does Div 5 have shootouts for S/C, S/G, & S/ST but not Stock and Super Stock? Division 3 has long done the same thing. The shootouts look like some fun.

The 150 spectators who show up for the divisonals would rather watch delay boxes, throttle stops and king-size junior dragsters while waiting for the Alcohol Cars.

Division 5 did have shootouts in the late 90`s for a year or two. I`m sure if a sponsor stepped up they`d do it again.

Are king sized junior dragsters akin to huge midgets?

Sorry for the lack of coverage, but when I'm at the track I'd rather enjoy the people than mess around on the internet. Highlights from my point of view were mostly about meeting new friends and hanging out with old ones. Got to meet Allen Patterson, Charley Bob, Dic Geary, Brenda Grubbs, Gary Stinnett, and our neighbor Joe LeBlanc. Stopped by the fish fry at the Jenkins compound and sampled some tasty catfish that Justin had noodled...definitely tastes better than the ones caught on a hook! Was fortunate enough to win 2 rounds each race, plus got to root for my buddy Jim Parsons all the way to the semis on Sunday. In all it was a great time and NHRA staff put in a lot of hours to make sure it went smoothly. Next time I'll try to get more pics of faces - the cars are great, but they're nothing without the folks.

I couldn't add the pics through my phone, so here goes:
The stickshift COPO (and #1 qualifier piloted by Tyler Cassil) out of Patterson's shop:

Bryan Dixon and Jim Parsons:

Dic Geary and I paired up for 2nd round of the 1st race on Friday:

Next time we're putting tinfoil on the windows of the truck house....the lights at night are big and bright

Our home base for 4 days and nights...

The track will continue on. Let's hope the next chapter is a good one!

Just about "Go Time"
