Just a quick post of the S/SS final between Gary Howe in the vintage Chevy and Brad Burton. Brad was the winner and Gary was a good sportsman.
![]() The weather was terrible, but this is Washington State, you know.. More later. Dale

A few more. Weather broke things up and I don't have the usual collection I have from these events. It was nice to see a lot of the Combo players from the other side of Puget Sound over for the race.
Flying Billboard Elgin ![]() Jim Isherwood ![]() Bill Bushmaker ![]() I'll put shots of the bracket racers in that forum later. Dale

Nice job shooting your Canon last weekend, Dale. You were in the perfect spot for the
Howe/Burton final. Any chance theres a 10 second seafoam green '68 Chevy II in your bracket photos? I hope so. It was nice meeting you also. Take care. Danny Durham |

Howes stickshift 55 shows that for a track that is run on a WW2 airstrip (no concrete except the waterbox), Bremerton still has some teeth! However, the short, downhill shutdown can give your brakes a workout if you take your time getting on the brake pedal. My first time racing at Bremerton was 1980, and despite a 4 hour tow, and potential long border line us, its still one of my favorite tracks. Many may not be aware, but the track is run by a car club, and has a volunteer staff, and the timing tower is on large casters, as unless things have changed in recent years, the tower, bleachers, Xmas tree etc all needed to be moved away after each weekend, so the racing surface could be available as an emergency runway thru thw week. And THAT has been going on since the late 50s. Quite a dedicated bunch!

As for a qualifying sheet, I was just a paying spectator. Shots of the bracket racers are up in that sub forum. Dale

Actually, you can still see the tracks we raced on in the '70s and '80s (and I presume before), which were on the left side of the runway, whereas now we're on the right hand side as seen from the starting line.(Near lanes in Dale's photo).
4 wides??? Naw,, the powers that be would never go for it, although theres certainly room for such an event. It'd be cool to try it. Danny Durham |
