Default VIN# Question

Looking at a 1970 Chevelle. The VIN# is 136370A122799.
I was wondering if someone could tell me (using the vin#) if this was a factory 396/402/454 car. It is a 4-speed with a 12-bolt rear end with 3:31 gears and has an LS6 454 in it at this time. I just don't think it's a true LS6 car.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank-You.....

S&B,
I do not believe that the VIN gives that info on a 1970. You need the build sheet to be sure. Go to the Team Chevelle site and sign onto the forums and ask and you will get the definite answer http://www.chevelles.com/

I am not a chevelle expert, almost had a Chevelle SS once, great cars though. Build sheet? cowl tag will help a lot. invoice? Of course you can check the #s on the tranny and motor to see if they match the Vin. Check for the Vin in all the places the vin is stamped to make sure you don't have a "manufactured car" You will need more than just the vin I am pretty sure to determine motor combo. You can do title searches to talk to the previous owners, and while you at it, run the VIN with your local PD to make sure it isn't someones long lost ride!

this site might help: http://chevellestuff.net/1970/index.htm

Good luck

Eric
