Default True story about a "STOCKER"

I worked at a local garage after high school back in the early eighties the owner had just purchased a 1967 Corvette 427/400 hp. Tri power A/SA car the steet racing scene was pretty active back then and the street racers would stop by and talk about who beat who on the past weekend a guy with a 1970 Camaro 377 inch small block prepared by a local machine shop with a "Roller valvetrain" was " cleaning up" they said. A cople of days later the Camaro owner stopped in at the shop and he saw the Vette sitting in the corner with its 9 in. slicks he replied tha it was a cute car! cute the Vette owner says it will lay a beating on that Camaro of yours! right its stock no way! stock right down to its hydralic flat tappets an rocker arms,he pulls a valve cover to show him. tha Camaro owner starts laughing again put your money where your mouth is 1000 bucks tonight at the local track, fine so the meet that night, line up tree comes down Corvette drills the tree and puts 12 car lengths on the Camaro! I wasnt ready camaro owner says 1000 bucks the Vette owner says then we can run again if you want so he pays the man and they line up again this time the Vette lets him get out a couple of lengths then goes by him blipping the throttle, they come back to the staging lanes Camaro owner hands him another grand loads his car and never stopped by the shop again! love those class cars from a two barrel small block to the newer supercharged Mustangs and Camaros which the same principles of this story apply to. Merry Christmas to you all and keep up the good work in 2014! ( This thread was inspired by a previous post.)

Great story. I too am a huge lover of the stock cars, but to the average "joe" to refer to one of them stock is a definite misnomer.More money just in the trans and converter than some street / bracket racers have in their entire drivetrain.

there is no comparison between a bracket car and a stock eliminator car or any NHRA class eliminator car. point I was trying to make is the average Joe has no idea the potential these cars have wether its a stocker right to comp eliminator. also back in the early eighties they were much closer to a "stock" production car than they are today.NG.

Great story! I used to do the same thing with my old L/SA Buick Skylark back in the late '70's on the street. It was not nearly as fast as that guys Vette, but was a hoot.... it would hook in a car wash!

Yup, Truppi/ kling engine, stock gm pistons and cam. I did the chassis and that was before you could put in a 12 bolt. The car went back on the street after Lebrun.
