Default I have a few questions?

How far do they make you go during a teardown.I was thinking about getting into Stock Racing.Im not a Super Motor Man.I guess I have another question. What if you cant put the Motor back together after a teardown because your skills are limited.Say for instance you go buy a Turnkey Car and have to go to the Barn,as you guys call it and cant put it back together. What then.Just wondering.I hope this is not a Stupid set of questions.

Most of the time a teardown consists of pulling one head. They can ask to see a piston and rod out of the motor if they choose to. If you can't do your own work there is usually another racer that will help you. But, if you can't get the car back together its just a no show for the first round.

Carb or throttle body, intake, cylinder head. Remove one valve for Tech to pour alcohol in the chamber to measure CC. Then they will check stroke while your head is off, measure your head gasket and check wheelbase.

As said above, usually there are a few racer's more than willing to pitch in.

YOU HAD TO TAKE ONE HEAD OFF PULL VALUE OUT , THEY WOULD LOOK INSIDE YOUR INTAKE, IF IT WAS A Q-JET CARB THEY MIGHT MAKE YOU TAKE IT APART, DO A BORE & STROKE ON YOUR ENGINE, CHECK THE CC'S OF YOUR HEAD,ETC
i WAS CLOSE A LOT OF TIMES ,BUT MADE IT THOU, TRY AND HAVE A FRIEND WHO KNOWS MORE THAN YOU HELP, iT DOES HAPPEN THAT YOU BUY A CAR AND GO TO THE BARN IN THE 1ST YR VERY OFTEN
good luck buying a car, but thats only the 1/2 of it.trailer ..parts...some thing to tow with and the list goes on & on
The money keeps going out and not much back in return but knowing you did it/

Can't tell you how many guys were icing in the lanes, using dry ice in the lanes, dumping water in the lanes, and have incorrect pieces on the cars and get away with it. I simply got caught. Just want to say sorry to Kenny as he knew nothing about the internals of the engine.

here is another reason you dont want to join in the FUN !
It's not like it looks from the outside or stands, everyone watching say" I could do that"
BUT it's VERY Tuff to do it !

I went through teardown once. I was able to help with tearing the motor apart, retrieving tools, draining fuel, taking things to the tech trailer. When we were done we had a box of parts that needed to go back on or in the motor. Nothing I could do then but watch! Thank you, Don!! lol

The randomness, terror and fear and loathing associated with teardown are a BIG difference between class racing and those that sneer "it's just a bracket race"

My brothers first time at Indy several years ago with a 400 Chevy he got to pull a head, a piston and rod (which required pulling the engine before the cross member was "fixed" for removal of the pan) and the Q jet was left in pieces after inspection. and the part number was requested off the crankshaft. I was afraid they might be checking prostates too! Thank God they didn't take it that far lol!! Don Jackson

Earlville is no fun...on the blacktop next to tech, no shelter...ask Randy Hopkins and others.
