Smile CIC Race at JEG'S Cajun SportsNationals

In an attempt to modify the race schedule for the JEG’S Cajun SportsNationals, I have been scratching my head to come up with a format that will work for the racers and fans for the free CIC race. The problem is that we need to run one round of NHRA eliminations for all categories on Saturday afternoon. This will accomplish two things: we can finish the NHRA race on Sunday at a decent time, and those who runner-up in the first round have the choice to get a head start towards their next destination.

However, that means that we cannot have an all-class-winner CIC race on Saturday. Time simply will not allow it. What we can do, is open the CIC race to the 16 highest qualified class winners in both stock and super stock (with alternates), and run them stock vs. stock and ss vs. ss until we have a stock vs. super stock final. We can run the five rounds starting first thing Saturday morning, and continue between time trials of the other categories. Once we have concluded the CIC race, we will give all stock & super stock racers their one non-qualifying hit, like the other categories made during the CIC race. That way, the CIC racers can get their car off of kill, and ready for bracket mode before first round. (novel idea, huh?)

My first thought was to make it an all-run on Thursday, but that would mean some class winners who didn’t get to the track until Thursday night would be excluded. The CIC race is based on a car and driver’s performance. While the new format will eliminate some class winners from the field, the top performing class winners will treat the crowd to some good no-breakout racing.

And finally, I got approval of the new format from a Yankee super stocker and a Cajun stocker. Imagine that! Both Dave Layer and Country Dog liked the idea, especially the time trial for everyone before first round on Saturday. Never thought I’d live to see the day that Jimmy and Dave agreed on anything!
