Cobra Jet Showdown 2012

It's coming up August 24-25 at Milan. Whose going? Will more cars show up than the 30+ that were there last year? I'm thinking of making the trip out to spectate and was just curious. Don Fezzel has told me he will be there again this year.

August is a busy month! SVTOA homecoming, Car-show, new project, shoot-out and then Indy. At least there's a break for me before the NMRA finals in BG.

It's about a 5 1/2 hour trip for me one way but I plan on attending the shoot out as a spectator. It would be nice to correlate the BIW pick-up with the shoot-out and save a trip but I plan on being there!!

2012 Cobra Jet Showdown to be held at Milan Dragway, August 24-26

The NMCA Flowmaster Muscle Car Nationals will host the Ford Racing Cobra Jet Showdown Presented by Diversified Products Marketing, a special event to be run in conjunction with the 6th Annual JE Pistons NMCA Muscle Car Nationals, at Milan Dragway in Milan, Michigan, August 24-26, 2012.

All 2008-2013 Cobra Jet owners are invited to participate at the Showdown. The Cobra Jets will be showcased in three no breakout Eliminators; two heads-up classes and a competition Index (CIC) class:

• CJ-TS (Top Stock): Stocker trim Cobra Jets utilizing the 2.3-liter or 2.9-liter supercharger or 427/428cid naturally aspirated engines.

• SS-CJ (Super Stock): 4.0-liter supercharged Cobra Jet’s in SS trim.

• CJ-CIC: A separate class, where Cobra Jet racers not competing in either of the heads-up classes can race against each other at the Showdown for a cash purse.

CJ-TS and SS-CJ will run modified NHRA Stock and Super Stock rules, respectively.

King of the Cobra Jets: Heads-up class winners will race each other with a handicapped start based on their quickest time, with no breakout, to crown the 2012 King of the Cobra Jets.

All prize money courtesy of Ford Racing and Diversified Products Marketing.

"The Cobra Jet Showdown was a huge success in 2011 and we are happy to have the opportunity with NMCA to bring even more Cobra Jet owners together for 2012. The Cobra Jet Showdown gives all owners the opportunity to experience their Cobra Jet and interact with the community of fellow owners and Ford Racing staff." said Jesse Kershaw, Drag Racing Competition Manager, Ford Racing Performance Group. "It's a unique opportunity that all Cobra Jet owners should participate in and an excellent show for all fans of production based racing.”

All 3 Cobra Jet Showdown classes will qualify on Friday, and run on a Sportsman ladder with a .500 full tree for Saturday eliminations. Each class will feature a $2,300 purse and the overall winner of the Showdown (King of the Cobra Jets) will receive an additional $1,000.

I am really looking forward to this year. I am hoping over 40 cars.

It's great to get our community of owners together to share their stories and bond over the Cobra Jet's. I really think it's a treat for the spectators as well. It's an impressive collection of very rare cars all in one place!

More details will come out next week. We've got some sponsors for owner dinners and I am working out a deal with Roy HIll to help some of our new 2013 owners get their competition license to get into the Showdown!

If you own, or are a fan of the Cobra Jet this is a can't miss event.

Even though I'm waiting anxiously for the confirmation date so that I can pick up my BIW and hand over Mike some cash. Lol. Hopefully very soon.

I have to brag on Mike@Diversified and Jesse and Brian@FRPP. These guys have been so helpful, professional and friendly with every conversation I've had with them. Words can not describe the gratitude and respect I have for this group of guys! I'm sure just about anybody else that has had the opportunity to speak and deal with them would agree.

This weekend Maple Grove had a small Cobra Jet Shootout/exhibition at their Fun Ford Weekend event. Drivers included Roy Hill, Pro Mod racer Robert Patrick, Lizzy Musi (daughter of Pat), and Bob Romanelli, with Lizzy taking the win over Roy. Also original Cobra Jet driver and drag racing legend Hubert Platt took the wheel for a licence pass! Roy and Robert are moving on to Milan then to Indy, here are a few photos.....
