Default Buyback Question

How does the buyback work in these big money bracket races ???

Say you have 140 cars for first rd. So that makes 70 winners.
Now 30 cars want to buy back in, do they run against themselves or are they
thrown in with the other 70 winners ???

So Second rd. would make 100 cars ?? is this right ???

Talking Re: Buyback Question

Pete for the most part you are right. Some races, very few I have been to, have the first rd buy backs run each other then the winners fall back in line for rd 2 of the regular competition. But most of them if you loose 1st rd, or sometimes 2nd rd, you "buy back" and fall right into the next rd. I have raced the same guy 1st and 2nd rd before.. That is just the way it is. I believe that the tracks do it to increase revenue. When I was much younger, 1st rd loosers could enter a "Gamber race". You paid $10 and the purse was set by how many people bought into it. They would split winner and R/U and that was it.. Man how times have changed. Now I have never been in a race that has "Muligans", that is a different animal..LOL..

Our local track started the mulligan crap this year. I know a racer who paid to run pro, lost first round, paid $20 to buy back into second round, lost again, used his $25 mulligan card and lost third round. $80 to run three rounds, quite a deal, lol. I know the tracks need the revenue but it is a circus sometimes between double entries, buybacks and now mulligans.

Wow! a Mulligan and a buy back? Now that is crazy....I don't know how some of these guys can keep up with some of the things, double entry the same car (Different #) then have two possiable buy backs. Well that is the rules and you know going in.

No telling what you get anymore some things I saw over the years with BB
1) BB 1st and 2nd rd. Very common in NC
2) BB 1st or 2nd rd. Common also
3) 3 rds of BB if you are a points member
4) All BB (technically a re-entry) race one round then fall into the 2nd rd.
5) BB as many time as you want first rd as long as cars are still in the lanes. Crossville TN used to do that.
Some of the things I've seen.

Kanawha Valley used to run the bb's down until there were 3 or 4 left then put them back into the race. I don't think they do that anymore.

Buy-backs: drag racing's version of NASCAR's Lucky Dog.

Stupidest one I have ever seen. The track decided at the last minute to have buy backs. First round had already run when they decided this. So they ran second round then the people that bought back in went straight to the third round. Buy back was $25 race paid $30 to third round looser. So if you lost First round they basically paid you $5 to try again. If you won first and lost second you were sol.
Personally I can’t stand them. I understand why tracks do it but I would much rather see the second chance races that some tracks do.

There was a track and/or race once I read about that had a "wildcard" buy back. You could buy-back at ANY time during the event. So, say you and I raced in the final. Neither one of us had used our BB. If I won, you'd buyback, and we'd re-run. If you won, I could buy-back and we'd re-run again. The winner of the third race would be the winner.

That might have been the worst idea ever.
