Default No Brutus at Mission

Sorry to say that we got shot down at the border this time for some chicken ***** from '82. All you can do at the border is shut up and go where they tell you but it was definitely a big disappointment. I guess we're going to have to lawyer up to get the paper work in order. What a stupid waste of money and energy.

Oh well. We'll definitely be ready for Spokane.

Chris, if you have been denied or refused entry to Canada due to a criminal record or a criminal offence, the procedure is that you make an application to Citizenship and Immigration Canada for a Temporary Resident Permit or TRP. If you are a U.S. Citizen or a citizen from a visa exempt country, you could apply for your temporary resident permit at the Canada/US Border or Port of Entry such as a land border or airport. If you are approved a Temporary Resident Permit, you will be granted your TRP right away at the border and allowed to continue your travel. Most Border officer aren't aware of this procedure. Hope this hepls. Claude

I thought maybe the forecast scared you guys off Chris.

I've never understood the Canadian border issue. For some I know the problems happened when they were in their teens. It could've been 20-30 years ago. They've been across the border a few times then all of a sudden they get denied.

My favorite story is the one where they see you have a record and are denying you entry, but wait if you fork over a few hundred bucks we'll let you through!!???

Anyone have a good explanation as to why they don't want us supporting their economy? Especially with the new 12% HST!!!!

BTW that was an extra $19.80 per entry on top of the $165!!!

Your side isn't any better. Last summer I got called inside (first time ever) and after wasting my time for an hour, the agent finally dug up something I did in the 70's. He did let me through and I wasn't asked about it again. Going across this morning so will see what happens.

And yes, the HST sucks!

Jody, any borders are a pain to come through. Many years ago crossing into the U.S I had to remove my car from my trailer, let the dogs(drug dogs) go through the car, truck, trailer, after 2hrs I was aloud to put it all back together which took another 2hrs. When I returned to Canada, the same scenario happened, luckily before leaving for the U.S. I had made an inventory of everything I was bringing with me such as tools, parts, car, tires even our food we were bringing and it still took more than 2hrs to allows us back into the country. Thank my lucky star that I had my DMV registration of my car because they would have impounded my car until I could have proven all taxes were paid. Now for the HST tax in Canada(Harmonized tax)' we could call it Value added Tax as they have it in Great Britain and other parts of the world, British Columbia might be removing it at the next referendum during the next elections. Many Federal and State taxes are hidden in the price of the goods anyways. One thing is for sure, we are over charged with taxes just like everywhere else. Jody the great thing about Canada when you are visiting is that any Province you buy goods or services in, will refund you the tax paid. All information stop areas have the forms there or apply on line. Claude

The charge against the driver was "Simple Assault" in 1982 when he was seventeen. It never happened. It was a clerical error or something. Now he has to lawyer up to prove that something never happened 29 years ago. What a hassle. We're not going to let this slide, though. We love Canada and Canadians. It's worth jumping through a few hoops to visit once in a while.

A couple of years ago I was driving one of my friends car up to mission for friday night drags. I pulled up with his 69 dart and shut it off, the gal in the box asked where I was going?, To the drags I said, Is this your car? No it belongs to a friend. Well I am not going to let you come into Canada with this car without proper paperwork. I turn around and go back to the US side and call the owner and he comes with paperwork, I then drive to the next booth over, the guy asked if I was going to the dr ags? I say yes, and he says HAVE FUN!! This was 1/2 hour after being refused entry and the gal that turned me around was STILL IN HER BOOTH?? This is the only difficulty I have had in dozens of trips to Mission raceway.

Gonzo, this is what happens when you give a little power to some people, some know how to use it and some don't. Remember that they're only human and unfortunately some are stupid right out of the box. Having gone through many different country in my life I've seen many types. Everything from have a great holiday to bribes in India to get out of the country.lol
