From Hemmings Motor News:
Elgin introduces stock-appearing nitrided rocker-arms "Stock" automotive parts and specifications have long been used as a means of governing racers by restricting the output of their machines. At least, that's been the idea, but more often than not, these hurdles are overcome by savvy competitors, and engine outputs rise above initially projected levels. Among the latest parts we've seen to help in these quests are case-hardened stock-type rocker arms from Elgin Industries. Stock rocker arms are another of those factory parts that are required in some classes of racing, again as a means of restricting output, since stock stamped-steel rocker arms can't handle the high levels of valve-spring pressures required with radical camshaft lobe profiles. However, by using what the company describes as an advanced nitrided, case-hardened metallurgy, the Elgin Pro-Stock Nitro rocker arms are able to resist wear much more effectively than stock pieces. This allows the Elgin rockers to offer the same sort of durability that racers are currently getting from ceramic rocker arms, but at greatly reduced cost. The Nitro rockers are currently offered for small- and big-block Chevy engines in several configurations.

Jeff,
Elgin had made these for Crane and started up making them again over the winter. They are available in a 7/16 stud for a SBC too. http://www.carshopinc.com/index.php/cPath/125

I just got through building a stocker motor a few weeks ago and used Elgin 7/16" SBC rockers. The studs were some conventional 7/16" screw in studs, the rocker arm part number is Elgin R-1840, and the rocker arm ball is Elgin RM-1000. They must be purchased separately. The poly locks are conventional BBC 7/16" items.Hope this helps!!

Joe how do you think they would hold up to say a baby street roller 254/260 @ .050 and .580 lift. with the pac behives? I am asking because I believe they may be a bit lighter than a big aluminium roller rocker. I am attempting a low $ old school SS 283. Daran

FYI - Comp Cams still sells their Nitro stamped steel rockers and are also available with 7/16" stud clearance.
